Ignorance or rude? Social Media

Some girl just posted a status on Facebook about her busy night tonight, ending with the words "I hope my boyfriend gets a bid to XYZ tonight because I wanna be a sweetheart <3 <3"

I am completely shocked. I don't know if maybe she just doesn't understand what a sweetheart is, and is confusing it with being lavaliered, if she thinks having her boyfriend in will make her a sweetheart, or what, but this status seems inappropriate. I literally looked at it a few times.

Has anyone ever seen something like this? I feel like maybe she doesn't understand and someone should sit her down and talk with her nicely but this status just doesn't look right. I was always told that if you want to be sweethearted you should never vocalize that thought to anyone unless it's happened.

What do you think?

It's dumb, but not worth getting upset about. Let it go.

I think that unless she's a good friend or sister, it's none of your business. Don't worry about other people so much.

(Unless it is your hope to be such sweetheart, in which case, I would avoid confrontation.)

She's just a dumbass. Hopefully boyfriend will school her ASAP. (Which he no doubt will if he doesn't get a bid because she couldn't STFU)

The problem with social media is that many people don't think before they post. To them, their natural thoughts don't require any filter before posting. This is especially true of the current crop of collegians who have grown up with Facebook and Twitter.

I could see someone saying this to her friends and all of them oohing and giggling over the idea. When you post something like this online, you end up with a much wider audience.

This isn't a big deal. Why do you care?
