2020 Recruitment vs early 1900s Rush

My grandmother was a Kappa at Ohio Wesleyan. My mother never went to college. She was a 1950s early bride at age 17. I was a Kappa at University of Florida, thanks to my other grandmother, because my Kappa grandmother had already died when I went to college. My other grandmother wanted someone to be looking out for me if only at a weekly chapter meeting. This was after the Ted Bundy murders at Florida State.

I know nothing of my grandmother's rush.

Imagine the stories! If anyone has a grandmother or great-grandmother story, please share it!!!

Great idea for a new topic. I would love to read a rush story from the early 20th century.

I have a copy of the 1936 Rush rules for Indiana.

Rule 1 was each girl participating in rush MUST plan to pledge a sorority by the end of that week.
Rule 2 Every girl desiring to participate in rush must pay a fee of fifty cents.
Rule 3 Formal open rush shall begin Tuesday, Sept 8 at 2pm and end Thursday Sept 10 at 8pm
Rule 4 No sorority may have more than four parties including Initial Tea each of which must be given at the chapter house. No party shall last more than two and a half hours.

and lots and lots of more rules about holding parties, how many people can be or must be at parties. Cars could be used for errands and the maximum number of cars that could be used.

25 rules in all

Considering the time lapse, if anyone has a living elder Aunt or older neighbor with rush stories to share it would be great to learn from them.

The book Bound By A Mighty Vow has a lot of good information. It follows Kappa Alpha Theta from its founding in 1870 (I believe) to around 1920.

Two of my local sources for reading a copy of that book disappeared when copies were checked out from libraries and never returned

Wish that book were still in print!
