Issue date: 1/27/10 Section: News
01/27/09 - The University of Rhode Island's Beta Theta Pi fraternity was derecognized by the Intrafraternity [sic]
Council (IFC) after violating hazing and alcohol policies.
. . . Eli Moger, IFC president, said that the fraternity was in violation of the alcohol and new member education policies, which both stress anti-hazing.
He said violating these hazing policies is what led to a mutual university and national two and a half year suspension of the fraternity.
. . . After five semesters, Beta will have the option to begin its reorganization process at URI, Moger said.
. . . "Beta Nationals will come in and interview all the members during the re-colonization process, and will [ultimately] decide whether or not to grant Beta a new chapter."
