Hopes for the New (academic) Year

So, as many of you are returning to your houses and dorms, what are your hopes for your chapter this year?

And what are you going to do to help realize those hopes?

Donate $$$

I am donating $$$ to my "Bring Beta Back to ISU, Terre Haute" fund. I have put some money aside to help the new colony should one ever come to fruition before I die.

Well, Beta Psi has re-opened it's doors this semester. It took about a half million to do it, but we made it happen.

Unfortunately I will not be there to enjoy due to playing in the sand in Iraq. I spoke to quite a few guys and they have high expectations for this semester. Last Fall we had the best pledge class with 27, and currently they think they can easily top that this year.

Additionally we are probably going to undertake a campaign to raise money for furthur improvements over the next five years.

Too bad this happening after I have already graduated...

Congrats on grad school. What is your area of study?

I went right through to grad school as well (and at the same place where I got my undergrad), and I lived that first year in the Beta House- and it was just as fun as it was when I was an undergraduate. Most of my fellow grad students thought that ridiculous, but oh well.

As to the original question posed, my hope is that I and other alumni volunteers do a good job this year of getting the alumni excited about our chapter's progress. The actives are kicking some serious ass this year- most of them devoted many hours this summer to a lot of construction work and upgrades on our house, and right now it looks like we will have the largest pledge class we have had since we had our old house back in the late 1990s (just a few more days of rush to go.)

I just hope we alumni in volunteer roles can do right by the chapter's efforts in getting the alumni coming around again and engaged in the massive positive momentum.

Keep your head down, as they used to say.

So far I have not had anybody I know "not" come home. I got out during the draw down of the arly 90's after 12 years. My wife is still in at 22 years and she has not had to go. We PCS again this coming summer to a destination to be determined.

For Coramoor - a bit from 1872 to inspire us

Let our motto be before us
As our guiding polar star,
And with true hearts in our bosoms
We shall wage victorious war.
Long life to you and yours, my boys,
For all cloudless is our sky,
And again in hearty friendship
Pledge to Beta Theta Pi.

God protect you & all in distant lands!
