Is that the Ken Burns one? If so I saw it when it was on a few years back and you're right, it is fascinating!
I am a bit of a Civil War buff. It was the 140th anniversary of the battle of Sharpsburg last week and there was a huge re-enactment at the battlefield (about an hour away) that I would loved to have seen but couldn't find a babysitter. Who wants to take kids to the bloodiest day of the Civil War, right?

Re: Re: The Civil War
maybe it is because i am a political science major - but i usually find wars pretty fascinating, and the civil war is a particulary interesting time in US history.

One of my bros works at Indian Head Naval Base in Maryland. He was in a meeting the other day, when one of the guys he works with mentioned something about unexploded cannon shells all over the south due to the war of northern aggression. He said he laughed as soon as the guy said it.
Anyway, I'm wondering how many southerners still refer to it as such, and still hold a grudge?

Teehee, all my aunts are southerners. (Please note that they're 60 years old and up who grew up in Alabama and Georgia..) When they come up and visit their 'Yankee kin' they like to throw the Civil War and Civil Rights debate in. So yeah, -some- still hold a grudge...(even though they didn't even -live- in that "northern aggression" era..LOL) Silly old-n-ignorant people.

My family in the deep south and the country refers to Northerners as Yankees. They pretty much would never even DREAM of crossing the mason dixon line. When I tell them I am going to NYC or Boston, or some area in the North, they are like UGH! WHY?! So, yeah, some Southerners are bitter, lol.

You know, my roommate has been hooked on that series. She is taping it, so she can show some of it to her students. She's a real history buff.
In my Southern family, we refer to that war as The War Between The States, but that's probably because if you can get your southern accent kicking, it sounds much more grandiose. War becomes two syllables, who knew?

People here call people from Northern Va yankees. But Lee's army was The Army of Northern Virginia. Anyway, I try not to associate with ignorant people.
