Question Chapter Website Hosting

I already posted this in the chapter operations forum, but I am going to post it here for my sister's help and advice. I know y'all can give me some help also!!

My chapter is looking for a new host for our website. We are currently using Tripod, and getting it free. But there are too many pop-ups and the URL is too complicated (can't remember it, etc.).

We looked into moving it to the school's server, but that means you can only edit on campus, have to use Lotus Notes, and can't copy and paste HTML into their program...yada, yada, yada. And since I live a half hour away from campus, I am not too fond of this idea. It doesn't sound like the best idea for what we are looking for....

SOOOO...What do other ZTA chapter webmaster use to host their websites??? We are looking for little to no popups. There will be pictures, graphics. We are looking into putting up a sisters only section.

Here is our current page: http://oduzta.tripod.com/iotasigma/

Thanks in advance!

ZLAM,
Meredith \^^^/

Meredith,

What we did for our site is contact local ISP services and ask them to donate hosting service, that way we only had to pay to register our domain name. This type of donation may or may not include an e-mail address using your domain, so be sure to ask. In our case, it does not include e-mail forwarding, but that's OK since I do all our web & e-mail stuff and also maintain the Beta Gamma chapter web site through our domain.

Basically, I just presented the facts: we're a non-profit organization looking for free domain hosting, and that we wouldn't need too much server space. The ISP gets a tax write-off, too.

If you cannot find someone to donate hosting space, I can recommend a hosting provider in PA that gives you a lot for the money including a lot of e-mail addresses (which means you could set up addressed for your entire EC/PC and just change mail forwarding or whatever as people change over positions). If you want to check out what they offer and the prices, it's www.sdshost.com. Between my husband, myself and business web sites that my husband maintains, we host close to a dozen web sites with these folks.

Of course, check for FREE first.
