I work in retail, and I think I see the absolute dregs of human behavior, so it makes me angry some days. I also am studying the social sciences so I frequently observe people's behavior and society more than I should. I wrote this right after work so I was a wee bit cranky. Today I don't feel nearly as irritated since I just had a nice huge latte. However I will probably be pissed off after I go to the movies tonight because some troglodyte is talking on their cell phone or letting it ring over and over again. I have a very low tolerance for stupidity and self centered behavior.

LOL

Tight a$$ khaki's w/ their sweater tied across their chest. *GAGS*

Thug wear-In my area, year 2003 (not in LA in 1995, lol) it consists of towels on the head, certain types of do-rags, extremely baggy and sagging pants, chewing on spoons/straws, tennis shoes that cost +100 dollars, BEEPERS (hello ever heard of cell phones, lol) gold/plat/bronze chains and teeth, etc. PM_Mama it's not much of a matter of name brands, it's more of how you wear it. I love Tommy too.

I've seen black guys w/ SHAVED heads wear do-rags too. I used to date one.

I apologize for my quote if it offended you. It was meant as a joke but after I read it again I thought maybe I shoulda put a smiley or something.

No offense but you reminded me of another trend that I hate... the coffee trend. My lil sis's boyfriend is ALWAYS drinking it, and now she is hooked on it... I don't get the whole fad with the flavored coffees and how everyone is OBSESSED with Starbucks.

The soccer thing is HUGE in Alaska and some other suburbs, but you're right about playing it in the city. I grew up in San Francisco (right in the city not nearby) and we played soccer a lot. The most useful Spanish I learned was either during soccer or riding the bus. Got me in trouble with my professor from Spain, but at least I could communicate with real people in the US with my so called "gutter Spanish".

I wish I had a picture of this 1980's Ford Escort I saw lowered with wide tires and lights underneath, it was hysterical. There are lots of Hondas and Acuras zipping about back home, but here in the snow drifts and land of pot holes it is stupid. I have seen a Honda Civic high centered on a snow berm after spinning out. He wrecked the lights under his car. The campus cops here also really hate on the different colored lights people have and pull people over left and right.

As far as the underwear thing goes...people should make sure they are wearing nice clean underwear and nothing with busted out elastic or holes. I also don't like the underwear now marketed that is meant to be shown, with little charms and sayings on the back. Tacky. I have to add in tank tops with straps smaller than the bra straps, it just looks funny. Oh and do you remember the early 90's sagging, with the jeans, boxers and sweats, must have been hot in there.

I mentioned scooters since I saw two winners riding motorized scooters on Easter. They aren't too useful in Alaska unless it is summer, as snow highly impedes their usefulness. However on my way home from work yesterday I saw someone on an old school scooter from the 80's rolling down the road, and it was cool. I really miss my banana seat bike with the streamers, and basket with plastic flowers.

I hear you on the coffee thing. I am working two jobs and it is finals next week so I am low on the sleep. There is a Starbucks in the store where I work so I'll go there since the coffee actually tastes better to me than the stuff on campus. At home though I go to the local roaster in my neighborhood because they are nice people, they roast it the next block over, and it tastes sooooo good. Perhaps we should add bottled water as an accessory? I thought of a few more things...I'll just make another post

To add to my cellphone tirade (and I don't hate them, I own one and I see the usefulness but people are out of hand!!!) people who use the headsets with the clip on mic, and walk around talking on it. Do they realize how ridiculous they look talking to themselves if the cords aren't obvious? Sometimes I have to look at customers twice to see if they are on a day pass from the Alaska Psychiatric Institute or if they are on the phone.

Water is essential for good health and people don't usually drink enough. However it is not something one needs to accessorize with. Furthermore the Nalgene bottles in various colors to coordinate with outfits? Really people that is too far. Pairs up with the hiking/outdoors outfits for the office, unless perhaps one is a park ranger? I purchased a Nalgene bottle years ago for camping and still use it, plus it is more appropriate for Alaskan climates and situations.

My friend's boyfriend just bought his first new car. She purchased him a very nice CD player as a gift. There isn't a disc changer in the trunk or anything, just a single slot. He was made fun of because he has a remote control...it isn't that far of a reach. Heaven forbid he reaches an extra inch to press a button.

I hate the skank bag clothes in the Juniors department, some are cute but many are YUCK and are WHOREific. What is worse is that women who have daughters of that age, shop there TOO. I wish we could check IDs and say "Oh ma'am you were born in the 60's? Your department is this way thank you" Some people can rock it, and the fit is better for some, but those women don't buy the WHOREific items. Our misses department has some very stylish items that are with current fashion trends and made in sizes to fit women past puberty. I do realize that the clothes fit some people better, so I am not speaking of everyone, and I sure most people know the type I am commenting about.

Lastly, and I KNOW I will offend people and this is a PERSONAL dislike of a trend and not an attack to anyone. Tanning is a trend that can be very dangerous and I have seen some ill effects on people. Not just getting regular sunshine but burning to a crisp and thinking they look good. There is a parent in the school I work at and she looks disgusting. Some people take it too far. I realize the benefits, especially in Alaska with a dark season and that the lights can help with Seasonal Affective Disorder. It is damaging over time and on a lot of people looks unattractive. To be blunt it is winter in the Arctic, WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE FOOLING? The worst offenders look a lot older than they are and the skin is gross and leathery. Like Magda from "There's SOmething About Mary."

Not to be totally rude but... I get so annoyed when people make comments about certain store, particularly A&F and how people who shop there are mindless zombies with dady's credit card. If I were to go out and bash people who shop at thrift stores, I'd immediately be attacked for discrimination and being judgemental. hello?? I shop at both stores.
I personally didn't like it since it is everywhere and all the little elementary school kids made a big deal out of it. It is a personal dislike of my own, wearing clothes that are an obvious advertisement of a brand. The obnoxious teenagers with Abercrombie and Fitch here are just following a trend and using their parents money most of the time. I have very few items that have a visible brand to them, and that is just some of my shoes. I work in clothing at my store and we have great private label clothes that will last longer and cost less. However after the offensive Asian shirts last year I really really disliked Abercrombie and Fitch. Like I put in my first post, I am likely to offend people and it is a personal dislike of mine, people can do whatever the hell they want.

I think I finally found my Greek Chat twin!!!

I don't care about the water thing, though. I've never looked at it like an accessory. I drink it all day long. I just assume people are taking care of themselves.

I worked retail throughout my college career. My major was Psychology, so I understand your frustrations with people and their behaviors.

The stereo remote in the car...my ex had one and I just thought it was the silliest thing. What's the point really? Unless of course you memorize the remote so that you don't have to take your eyes off the road. Perhaps it's a good thing for someone sitting in the back who would like to control the radio.

The car thing...yeah, personally I am not into it. I used to look at them and think, how stupid. Now I just figure, to each his own. But I still feel you.

Tanning...man, this is so bad for people. It's worse than sitting out in the sun. At least it is if you are concerned with wrinkles.

Your rant is cracking me up. lol! I was in the Junior's Depratment the other day with my friend's teenaged daughter shopping for prom and sweet sixteen dresses. I was shocked at the mom's picking out dresses for their junior high daughters. They wanted their girls who are 13 or 14 to dress like whores with tight, low cut, backless skanky dresses. The daughters were saying things like mom that is too much. The mothers wanted their daughters to dress like that.

I am really surprised and pleased that there is someone that doesn't think i am completely out there.

I don't care about the water thing, though. I've never looked at it like an accessory. I drink it all day long. I just assume people are taking care of themselves. (There was an article in the Anchorage Daily News in the "Perfect World" teenage journalism section about a group of students that matched their Nalgene bottles to various outfits and activities. I have to carry bottled water since the local water has a high chlorine content, and I am allergic to chlorine so I fill up a bottle from my Brita.)

I worked retail throughout my college career. My major was Psychology, so I understand your frustrations with people and their behaviors. (Retail has given me a VERY low opinion of humanity and given A LOT of fodder to a live journal community called "customers suck" I love to vent there.)

The car thing...yeah, personally I am not into it. I used to look at them and think, how stupid. Now I just figure, to each his own. But I still feel you. (Alaska has the funkiest cars...who puts black lights in a 1970's Ford Grand Torino Station wagon and has their friends in the reverse facing seats in the back? Or jacks up a 1981 Cutlass Supreme...who does this???)

Tanning...man, this is so bad for people. It's worse than sitting out in the sun. At least it is if you are concerned with wrinkles. (I don't smoke or tan, and I cut way back on the drinking, I always get carded for R-rated movies, and this pleases me greatly)

My friend dubbed the term "WHOREific" for a lot of the clothing. It is sick how it trickled down to the 7-16 girls size clothing. Eight year olds do not need to wear pleather mini skirts, or off the shoulder midriff baring tops with fur accents. She now has a daughter and is paranoid people will make gifts of strumpet toddler clothing. I saw something sick the other day. A mother daughter duo, over tanned and fake blonde walking around the store. They had on matching low rise pants that were borderline camel toe, midriff baring shirts with the Play Boy emblem, and Play Boy belly button dangles. This woman had to be very close to 40. Good for her for being in shape but matching outfits with your teenager and promoting Play Boy, YUCK. Oh and one day a mom bought her 12 year old a Water Bra...classy.

Posting whore

I have posted a lot to this thread today, but my friend isn't greek, and has no plans to be so she urged me to post this for her.

Sweat pants or athletic outfits with GOLD CHAINS. She really hates it. Guys sporting that always seem to try and pick her up.
