Just wanted to let you all know it gives me a smile whenever I see a reference on GC to "ImsohappythatIama kappakappakappagamma!" My mom is a Kappa alumna (from your Northwestern chapter) - my dad still teases her (after 40 years of marriage) about singing that song! (I recently put together a video of photos/home movies/songs for their 40th anniversary and a Kappa sister of hers sent me a classic photo of a skit where they were all in housedresses and my mom was pretending to be pregnant. Their class just had a sister reunion and had a blast.)

Kappa wasn't at my school until after I graduated - I'm a Theta. But I've always had a fondness for Kappa and was so glad to hear when you colonized at my school. There's just something about the Kite and Key!

hope you all are having a wonderful February.
Jane

Well thank you Jane! We tend to get smiles too, when we see the words to "Pat" (which is the real name of the song!)

It's always wonderful to hear stories of how GLO membership really is for life! I'm glad you found your home in Theta, they're a wonderful group, but still hold a special place for Kappa. That sort of Panhellenic spirit is a great testament to Theta and your mom.

Thanks, ISUKappa.

Actually, my mom is still p.o'd at Theta - she claims we "poached" Ann-Margret when my mom was in school. Now, she's got two Theta daughters (my sister and me), a Theta daughter-in-law, and a Theta sister.

I laugh about the song as well with my mom, despite the fact that none of us are Kappas! When I was in undergrad, my roommate ended up pledging KKG and when her Rho Chis came to give her the bid they sang "Pat". That's also the song that's sung at our Unity Ceremony when the KKG Rho Chis/Panhel reveal their true identity. So needless to say, despite being a DG, that song played in my head for days!
I was talking about it with my Mom (who was an AEPhi) who said that when she was in college, the Kappa house was across the street and during Rush she'd always hear the song as well! This, mind you folks, was told to me 35 years after my mom joined a sorority. The fact that she remembered the song was funny to me. She laughed though because she knows the words to "Pat"--but can't remember a single AEPhi song without help from friends!
Thought I'd share.

Could any Kappas please post the lyrics to the song here? I only know part of it? Thanx!

As requested, the first verse and chorus to Pat (which is all chapters usually sing)

Pat, says she
What, says he
Tell me the truth, says she
What do you think is the best fraternity
Sure, says he
That’s easy, easy to see says he
Nobody's better than KKG

O Kappa Kappa Kappa Gamma
I’m so happy that I am a
Kappa Kappa Kappa Gamma
Nobody knows how happy I am

This is how I learned it in my chapter, but there are slight variations.

Straight from the "Songs of Kappa Kappa Gamma" from 1984:

"Pat," says she.
"What," says he.
"Tell me the truth," says she,
"What do you think is the best fraternity?"
"Sure," says he,
"That's easy, easy to say," says he,
"Nothing is in it with K.K.G."

Chorus: O Kappa, Kappa Kappa Gamma,
I'm so happy that I am a
Kappa, Kappa Kappa Gamma,
Nobody knows how happy I am.

"Pat," says she.
"What," says he.
"I've seen the kite," says she,
"Also the anchor and arrow so bright," says she.
"Say," says he,
"Go easy, they are all right, you see,
But, what you want is the Golden Key."

Chorus

"Pat," says she.
"What," says he.
"Please tell me true," says she,
"What would you think of the Wine and the Blue on me?"
"No, take them back with the Gold and the Black," says he,
"You'll want the two Blues of K.K.G."

Chorus

ISUKappa, I think we learned it your way, too. The chorus isn't different though!

That's a cute and catchy song. I am sure that if I heard it, that it would be stuck in my brain.

Oh, it's definitely catchy. And if you saw it with the motions, you would even more amazed! (it involves a lot of hand clapping and knee/ground slapping and arm raising. It's just a fun song!)

That has got to be the most addictive song ever! I still remember it from rush with hand motions and all and I didn't go through yesterday. I was talking about brain slug (stuff that stays with you long after you need to know) with some other AOIIs (different eras and chapters) and EVERYONE mentioned that song.
