Being Greek Beneficial?
I always here the benefits of greekhood, such as networking. But does anyone have an example of how being in their fraternity or sorority has helped them in other ways?

Okay, these may not be the examples you want (they are kind of brief), but the question was a little vague, so here goes.
There were girls in my chapter that were really good at science... they helped me with my homework.
When my boyfriend and I broke up, I had sixty "roommates" to help me through it.
I moved to a new city... met people through the alumnae chapter.
Networking, for sure. I have had job interviews where the woman interviewing me was Greek, and at times part of my organization. It really helps when you are referring to your sorority leadership in response to their questions.

4. Being able to work outside of your comfort zones
5. If you are a leader, learning how to step down in some situations or if you are a not a leader how to step up in some situations.
6. Personal Presence/confidence-Understanding that the way you carry yourself is as important as your parents/teachers have told you all your life.

1. How to work effectively on teams to get a job done
2. How to live with others peacefully
3. How to give back to the community
4. How to be a good listener and accept opinions that I may not initially think are right
5. How to drive a stick shift car (PDP for any D Phi Es out there!)
I could go on and on....

1) Helped me gain more school spirit, including increasing my desire to donate back to the chapter (when I can afford to.)
2) Helped break down racial barriers.
3) As the director of a grant while I was an undergrad, I learned all about how to disperse funds, taxes, etc, etc.

When I went to a formal dinner, my non-Greek friend had to watch me to know how to use her utensils and act at the dinner!

1. How to be heard above the din of confusion.
2. How to step down when you're not the most important person in a situation.
3. How to compromise and sacrifice for the good of the group.
4. Leadership, leadership, leadership.
5. How to organize, run meetings, and delegate.
6. How to plan ahead and follow a budget.
7. How to agree to disagree.
8. Respect for the wisdom of those who've gone before you.
9. And of course, love, loyalty, friendship, support, and sisterhood.

1) you learn to work with people that you never thought you would have the chance to.
2) you get to feel a sense of gratitude and satisfaction when you plan a successful event and you have the approval of 30+ girls.
3) Free smiles, hugs, and unconditional love.
4) you meet LOTS of people
5) teamwork
6) support in times of need... i also broke up with a bf during my last semester and girls that i didn't really talk to much in the house came up to me and told me that if i ever needed anything to call them.

Although the decision was predicated on talent and experience, the fact that my first boss in commercial television was (is!) a Delt from the same school certainly didn't hurt.
We're still in contact.
