Are Greeks biased in who they invite to parties/events?

I noticed that on college campuses, fraternities and sororities hand out flyers to parties or events to people who are supposedly attractive or people who look "cool." A lot of people walk by but they only give it to some people. The frat guys especially like it to give them to attractive girls. At least that's what I'm getting from it. Is that true that they select certain people or do they really give it to random people?

It's a private party. They can invite whoever they want. If you had a birthday party growing up, did you just put up signs all over the place inviting whoever wanted to come?

Flyers? Seriously? If you have to create and hand out flyers, it's probably going to be a lame party anyway.

Not to mention that it seems like a big RMF. On ocassion, chapters at my school would sponsor open dances at the student pavillion to raise money for philanthropies, but parties at houses were generally considered by invitation only. That way we could control who was in the house and knew which brother was responsible for which guests.

We always had date parties. You had to invite one person (although there was a point where we did crush parties so you could invite up to three people) and you had to get information about them or they would not be allowed on the bus.

If you don't have a house, and you're having your party at a club or other off-campus venue, it's actually a pretty common and effective way of getting a good turn-out. This is a practice among ethnic GLOs in many areas of the country, and I assure you, 33girl, it does not automatically make a party "lame."

OP--as someone said earlier, chapters are allowed to distribute fliers to anyone they want to. Greeks are not the only groups that do this. I work on a large campus, and I see certain student orgs "pass over" some students walking by and hand fliers to others. If you really want one, just go up and ask for it.

^^I have heard of that, and I apologize for generalizing, but I don't think the OP was talking about ethnic GLOs.

Unfortunately not everybody has facebook (no, really, it's true, there are some), and of those who do have it, not everybody checks it obessively... unlike myself.

Sounds like something from The House Bunny, but I would imagine that the flyers are handed out to people who look receptive to receiving them.

Usually it's flyers about some event in some nightclub or something... heck there was one about a "lingerie party" at some club in L.A. Oh and now that you mention ethnic GLOS, I noticed that it's usually the Asian ones that do it.

Some clubs use greek orgs to help promote them. And yes, if that's the case, only the pretty people are getting personal invites. Welcome to life.
