Someone at my school asked me why we're not SPhiE like DPhiE. But I guess then we'd also have to be the Seephers and they'd be the DelEps.

Anyway, every org, no matter how short or simple the name, has more than one abbreviated nickname at my school. We call Sigma Pi either Sig Pi or just Pi. Also, Phi Beta Sigma is referred to as PBS, not as Sigma like on most other campuses and some people say AKA as 'aa-kuh.'

Another thing, one of my friends who goes to DePaul refers to the SigEps as the Sigs it always sounds funny to me.

^^^ Never heard of Sigmas being referred to as "PBS"

I have heard the "aa-kuh" thing, though. That, and calling them "k's"

At the University of Hartford, they used to call themselves "SPEE-dawgs". Not sure if this is the current vernacular, though.

my guess is that it spawned from "Phi G" with the 'phi' pronounced as 'fee' but lets not get into the phi vs fee debate again.

Your exactly right. It was created by the New York chapters in 1879.

Ugh. Hate the Fuzzy nickname. At my alma mater, we're usually known as A Xi D, but up the road at Ga. Tech, they are Alpha Xi.
