UDub Sigma Chi?
I just heard on the radio this morning that there was a shooting at the Sigma Chi house last night. Two people were asked to leave a part and something (?) happened. I couldn't find anything on the PI or Times websites though.
I hope all the brothers are all right!

Wow..... that is so crazy. Last year at the Back to School party that one of the fraternities throw, a fight broke out. The guys hold those parties at a hall near their house, which isn't in a realllllly bad area of Detroit, but it's not exactly the best. The brothers were escorting people out for smoking weed in the corner, and then outside one of the guys shot out in the air, and he was standing next to one of my good friends. My friend was terrified. The few of us that were left were stuck in the hall with some of the guys. I think it was that same nite at the after party at the house, another guy was on teh street and shot off a gun, and one of the guys from another fraternity chased him down the street.
Needless to say, for the next few parties held at the hall the guys bought a metal detector stick, and it worked as far as keeping guns and weapons out. However, locals were still coming in, and starting fights. They don't have their parties there anymore.
This incident that was mentioned, among the others, is horrible. If it's such a problem at those parties, why don't the fraternity brothers buy a metal detector thing? Seems like it's not that rare of an occurence, according to that article, for gun shots to be ringing. But thank God that no one was seriously injured.

the article seems like it is trying to generate bad press for the fraternities at UW...listing previous problems in the past 10 years or so...is the school worried at all about having more restrictions set for greek life?

The seattle new stations always seem to have a field day with the fraternities at UW - living in Vancouver I get all the Seattle stations and it always seems like they are talking about one incident or another the UW fraternities - it's quite ridiculous, unfortunately the media likes to pick on them.

So I was camping
I live across the street at Theta Xi at UW and I've been to partie at sigmachi. Overall the guys are pretty nice and supposidly they kicked the guys out for selling hard drugs. Good for them. The guys didn't liek that too much and returned a little later. This is not a story of fraternity's being bad, but more of a story of how Bellevue kids are gun carrying druggies. I'm a little dissapointed not to hear about my houses thing that happened in 1990. Why didn't they just talk about the 70's. I'm sure there were a few things that happened back then. For the 2,000 or so people that live in the greek system here, we get a lot of crap, and personally... I'm really sick of it.

I am curious, maybe you can help, ThetaXi. I know school is out for the summer and the AXD house at least is mostly closed. Are the fraternity houses open - and are they open to members only, rented out, or what?

Info
Sororities are closed. Fraternities are open for the most part. Usually fraternities rent rooms out during the summer to girls. Now if there is some special case they will let a guy live-in but thats about it. I think we have a space for a girl but I'm not exactly sure. Why were you asking?

Something similar happened at my campus 2 or 3 years ago. I wasn't around then so I don't know the exact story, all I've really heard are bits and pieces. Basically there was a random GDI (who for some reason I'm thinking may have been a pledge that they kicked out for drugs, don't know for sure though) that came into a the fraternity house and shot a gun into the air when there was a smallish gathering. It was a pretty big deal, and the house had a bunch of sanctions and etc. imposed on them, some of which are still on today. However, they did bounce back though...they managed to get co-fraternity of the year honors this year.
