I will clarify that we play football indoors, but can only drink outside so tailgating is done al fresco.

I think it actually was cold on Saturday in the south. At least they didn't have a foot of snow like there was at Penn State.

I know Atlanta was supposed to be in the 30s. (and Hartfield closes when it hits freezing)
ETA: I'm trying to give them the benefit of the doubt, but nothing would make me smile more than to see a southern SEC team play in the snow.

Generally, yes, but Saturday night the temps were in the low 40s and wind gusts of 10-15 MPH made it even chillier. It was a bit nippy.

I love the Homecoming maid in the wheelchair. Nothing's going to stop her!
It's also very nice to see a whole stadium of people in small-town Mississippi cheering for a white girl on the arm of a black man. Times change!

Yes it was rather cold here Saturday evening for the game. And our HC Maids do wear "pageant" style dresses. That has always been the tradition here at Ole Miss.
Our Associated Student Body president is black...we aren't as backwards as people think down here We might dress up and do things a little different but that's what makes us unique!
Oh and some of the alumni do dress down for games. I know the older I get the easier it is to just put on a nice pair of jeans and a cute top for football games! I refuse to wear heels in the Grove to tailgate!

Really? I had no idea.
In historical context, it's deeply meaningful to see that homecoming presentation at Ole Miss. It's far more reflective of changed times than it would be at, say, Rutgers. The public universities that tore themselves to pieces within living memory over a single black man enrolling DO exist only in the South. That makes it especially appealing to see everyone cheering that lovely homecoming show without blinking an eye. Ole Miss had to come a long way in the last 45 years to get to this point. I think it's wonderful.

Especially Ole Miss. Isn't it the school that had riots that had to be put down by the National Guard when a black man tried to enroll?

Yes we are "that school." His late son was my finance professor at Ole Miss.
"In the fall of 1962 Meredith risked his life when he successfully applied the laws of integration and became the first black student at the University of Mississippi, a pivotal moment in the civil rights movement which sparked riots on the Oxford campus that left two people dead."

Kansas State revamped the traditional homecoming court back in the 70's, in favor of the student ambassador program:
Each year a male and a female student are elected to spend the year attending alumni and campus activities, speaking to alumni, friends, current and prospective students. The Ambassadors serve a one-year term, and each receives a $1,500 scholarship and official K-State ring from the Alumni Association.
The two K-State Student Ambassadors represent the student body at Alumni Association events throughout the state and at university activities. The ambassador program began in 1977 as a way to involve student representatives at alumni events.
This year's finalists are a TriDelt, an ADPI and a Theta for women, and an independent (I think), a Beta, and a DU for men.
