After months of lurking in here, following other people's stories and things...I would like to announce that I have decided to pursue alumnae initiation myself.
Here's some background:
I went to college at Indiana University, which, as some of you may know, has one of the most hypercompetitive Greek systems in the country. I rushed my sophomore year but dropped out midway through. I got cut from a lot of the houses for grades and I didn't feel like the houses left on my list were the right places for me. I joined Alpha Phi Omega and am a very happy Brother of that fraternity. Still, I've always been fascinated with sorority life, and sororities in general. I've always wondered "what if..." I've felt something was missing, if that makes any sense whatsoever. But I always felt that I missed my chance.
You can imagine how happy I was to find out that alumnae initiation is possible, and that there have been so many success stories on here. Reading those has been very encouraging to me. I've been tossing around the idea for a while but it's been only recently that I've made the decision to do it myself, after a lot of thought. (and several dreams about it, oddly enough!)
I've read the advice post in here, and done some research on the sites of the groups that are around here. There are three groups I've narrowed it down to, and one that I am strongly leaning toward at this point. I like terriers, so henceforth they will be known as follows:
The Airedales (this is the group I'm leaning toward)
The Wire Fox Terriers
The Border Terriers
I will be sending out an initial interest email to the Airedales this week...I just have to figure out what to put in there.
Of course I'll keep everyone posted.
I'm also going to chronicle this in my Livejournal. There will be more ruminations and stuff than I'll put here, probably.
It's going to be filtered because I am sure not everyone on earth wants to read all about it. If you'd like to be on that list, just comment in my Livejournal (
http://www.livejournal.com/users/sisterhavana) and I will add you.
Anyhow, so I'll stop rambling now. Good thoughts, support, advice, anything else all welcome. I'm really nervous and excited at the same time.
