I have a quick question....

"Because this is the most formal night of recruitment, you may want to consider wearing a nice dress"

how nice does my dress need to be for pref night? and does it matter what color or anything.... HELP

"Little black dress" is the keyword--not that it necessarily has to be black (in fact, you may stand out for NOT choosing black), but a dress of that type--usually a short (not a gown!) cocktail dress. At some campuses you might get away with a really nice sundress, but you'd have to find that out.

The little black dress would work IF you wore something outstanding on the dress, such as a bright yellow or pink sash/scarf, or something similar.

Otherwise, you want the idea of the "little black dress" without the color. Most sororities all wear either black or white dresses, so you don't want to blend in with them.

Coming from a Florida school, I feel comfortable telling you that you should be fine wearing a dress you would wear to a graduation or a house of worship. Strapless or spagetti strap sundresses are appropriate, too, just don't look like a hoochie mama.

You don't want to go prom or semi-formal, but if you want to go for a manicure or fun hair style, go for it!

For dresses, Dillards or Burdines are great choices, and so is Ann Taylor. Most of the sororities will be wearing black, or a dark color, and they will be more formal than you. It's ok to wear any color you like-- black, white, pink, blue, etc., so long as you feel great in it! Again, comfy shoes! Kitten heels work perfectly. Leave the platforms in the closet this week.

When you have Orientation/Greek Forum, your Recruitment Counselor can better guide you. The counselors might put on a fashion show, and there might even be some tips in your recruitment brochure. Or you can call the office of Greek Affairs at your school, and a volunteer can also assist you about what to wear each day.

Here are some examples of things you could wear for prefs:

Good luck!

"Little black dress" as defined by me~ A dress that is about knee-lenght and dressy. Most sundresses are too casual and if you wore it too a high school dance chances are it's too formal. A good test for me at least is what would my brother say if he saw me in this dress and I know that if he wouldn't approve of me wearing it it's inappropriate. Remember you there for the girls not to impress guys.
