Competition among graduates

Hey folks,
this is along the same lines of the jobs after graduation thread...I was just wondering if any of you had noticed how many fellow students graduated in your discipline?

In my program of sociology there were around 100, give or take. Most other programs in the social sciences faculty had around the same, reflecting on this number i realize how cut-throat competition is for employment within your field.

My school had around 24 people graduate with psychology degrees. Yes, my school is small, so that made up a big percentage. In the grand scheme of things, psych is a big major. The competition is great, and the jobs are not plentiful.

The good news is that a lot of psych majors end up either being content with their bachelor's or going into social work. The bad news is that the competition for grad programs is absolutely cut-throat and you are against the best of the best.

You get to a point where only GRE scores can save you. And that's B.S.

Sometimes I wish I would have majored in something where my final degree only needs to be a bachelors. Like engineering or something. And be making 45,000 right off the bat.
