Post reorganizing rush???

I just started as Greek Advisor here at VCU. A 23,000 urban campus with only 2% Greek. Administration is starting to reconsider keeping us here unless a step in a positive direction is shown. What I need some help on is any ideas to help get numbers up, especially in the sororities. We have thought of making rush very informal similiar to the fraternities Forum. How can we get more people involved who are willing and able to actually do things??? Thanks

I replied on the Rush board, but are the groups on your campus national or local? How long has there been a greek system on campus? How many sororities, fraternities and what is campus ceiling and how close are any of the chapters to ceiling?

Our school is very urban. Lots of commuters. We have been on this campus for around 20 years. Currently we have 9 IFC chapters 5 NPC chapters and 9 NPHC chapters. It just seems interests in "going Greek" are just not here and we want to change that. Any thoughts?

Don't worry about fading out or anything. The fact that there are frats and sors existing on your campus means there are greek interests. The campus 'should not' have the authority to govern student organizations (but you might wanna check up on that); most people assume a frat 'belongs' to a campus...totally wrong. Anyways, I'm side-stepping. Overall, conduct your rush anyway you want to help rushees understand you and attract potential pledges. It's all about getting people to come to you and you finding the ones that would be a good addition to the house. Campus? Bah...to heck with them. As long as the frat is in good standing with the student body and the the city, your frat is in no danger or being shoved aside.

The best way to promote Greek Life on your campus is to get the Greek leaders to get out and talk. You have to encourage the groups on your campus to work together to promote themselves. That is what worked on my campus. We were a small campus (only 2000 students) but by working together we showed everyone how much fun Greek life was.

Encourage the current members to join other activities that interest them or to run for a Student Goevenerment office. This will create viasability. Have Greek letter days where everyone wears their letters.

Invite local newspapers and the school paper to cover Greek activities that are positive in nature.... alumni reunions, service projects, fundraisers, faculty socials. Get the Greek name out in as positive a light as possible.

Have every group post signs on campus announcing when their meetings are. Even though these meetings are for members only usually and all members know when the meetings are, it shows the students and administrators that these groups are meeting and active on campus.
