penn state has the largest greek system in the country according to how many members there are in the greek system. we have 61 fraternities and 29 sororities, but it only makes up 12-15% of student population. even though that is not that much, the greek system has a huge impact on the campus

UMass Amherst: 18,000 undergrads, maybe 850 Greeks, about 5%. Some stupid things have been done over the years, and the overall campus impression is that rather than go Greek, you should save yourself the time and drop out now. The numbers have been climbing up tho- in '97 it was under 600.

Illinois State-
I can't find % information anywhere! When I was there it was rumored to be at 10% (about 2000 students), but it seemed like much less.
There are 23 fraternities (21 IFC) and 17 sororities (14 Panhell).

Rush can be VERY brutal. I remember when I went through rush there were over 300 girls, and 6 sororities that were almost at quota, lots of girls were double dropped...very sad...

I ran across this web page ...
http://www.purdue.edu/odos/sao/greek/bigtenmini.htm

it has percentages for the big ten campuses as well as links to their greek life web pages.

Has the Greek Life population changed at your school?

Mine is still less than 1%.

University of Nebraska has

about 21000 students...
22 IFC
14 NPC
6 MC

15% of the Male population is greek
16% of the Female population is greek

And yet...

69% of members of The Innocents Society are/were Greek (this is highest recognition you can get at UNL...they only take 13 juniors every year)

52% of members of Mortar Board are Greek
90% of the Student Alumni Association is Greek
84% of the Student Ambassadors are Greek
88% of the members of Student Foundations are Greek

Plus I think I've read somewhere that over 85% of the alumni donations to the University of Nebraska are by alumni of Greek houses.

45% at my school, yet when we tried to bring in a new sorority at our school the panhellenic council voted against it because there is "a lack of interest in the current sororities."
