My school is pathetic. We're one of the biggest schools in North America (University of Toronto) with 60,000 students. I'd say the Greek Population is less than 1%. There are less than 700 greeks at my school. Give or take. Numbers fluxuate. 7 sorors, about 15 or so frats. That too changes from year to year. (frats fold, colonies form...). The school doesn't recognize us so that might have something to do with the numbers. People at my silly school just don't seem to be interested. Their loss.

University of Illinois is about 25% Greek. So with 25,000-30,000 students, you're still talking about 7,000 or so Greeks. I think this is a typical percentage for large universities.

although Iowa is in the Big 10 with Illinois, and has about 25,000 students... we are only about 12-13% Greek

Boston University - ~16k undergrads
reports vary, putting the greek pop. b/w 6 and 10%, with 8 fraternities (plus 2 sub-rosa) and 11 sororities. interestingly enough, BU used to be a huge greek school as late as the early '70s, with almost all nat'ls represented, then the administration attempted to remove all greek life, and in the mid-'80s greeks began rebounding. crazy.

i go to a small private liberal arts school that is 75-80% greek... people consider you strange if you don't rush. we have 5 national sororities and 15 national fraternities for about 1,700 undergrads.

My school has about 10% greeks when it comes to sororities...with the men though, it's like 5%. The fraternities haze pretty badly though. We have 10 sororities (but it's too many!) and about 8 frats...they come and go so quickly

The figures I heard when I rushed freshman year were:
50% of guys were greek
60% of girls were greek.
The school is 3,000 undergrads. Out of 400 freshman women over 300+ rush! Greek life is HUGE.

I just wanted to clarify Ceres is not local we are International and we are not just for ag majors. Our chapter is mostly ag majors but only "an appreciation of agriculture or the rural lifestyle it represents" is needed. Hopefully in the future we will have more non-ag majors for more diversity. It is sad that on our own campus people don't really understand who we are.

I think my school has only 10% Greeks now.
Back in the day when I was there it was up to 20%.
