Chi O Legacy Policy

Does anyone know if a Chi Omega legacy gets invited to the preference party, is she guaranteed a bid?

I am not a Chi O, but I can speak pretty confidently on that NO legacy is guaranteed a bid.

Again, I am not a Chi O, but the legacy policy is more like guidelines to tailor to a particular campus. Generally, most sororities guarantee an invite to the first invitational round, but on some campuses, a Chi O chapter could cut the recommended number of women and just have legacies. I think it depends on the competitiveness of the chapter and campus as to whether they place a legacy on the first bid list if she is invited to pref, or just somewhere on the list.

Pi Beta Phi's policy

A Pi Phi legacy who attends a pref party is to be placed on the first bid list, according to Pi Phi policy as stated on page 37 of the sorority magazine.

Good job not answering the question and generally bringing nothing constructive to the thread.

You should send a private message to NutBrnHair or OtterXO with your question. They're probably the 2 most knowledgeable Chi Omega alumnae on this site.

Wait...so telling her that just because you're a legacy, you're not guaranteed a bid is not constructive? Sorry. Maybe you should go read her question again, and try to do it with some reading comprehension skills this time.

Maybe you should re-read her question. It was whether a Chi O legacy invited to prefs is guaranteed a bid. Which, as ccwstc has shown us, is a possibility in some sororities.

I am not a Chi Omega member but work very closely in greek affairs with someone who is, and we discussed this issue a few weeks ago because the question comes up time and again from parents. She checked into the matter, and according to her, a Chi O legacy must be given serious consideration. There is no guarantee that you are placed on the top bid list if you receive an invitation to pref.

My thoughts on the matter...

I understand the question, but am not willing to answer it in this forum. If it was public knowledge it would be listed on our website for John & Mary Everybody to know. If you are a Chi Omega member in good standing and wish to call the Executive Headquarters with this question -- go ahead.

The OP's question was about being "invited" to pref. She said nothing about "attending" pref. So I think we all can honestly say that simply being "invited" guarantees nothing.
One's attendance may be something else altogether.

Okay, let me clarify

Does anyone know if a Chi Omega legacy who actually attends a Chi Omega preference party should expect a bid?

NutBrnHair, who is a 28 year Chi Omega member, has given you the answer.

From the sounds of the question it sounds like a "personal" (like it has happened to your or a family member) issue. With that in mind, I would advise what NutBrnHair said and call Chi Omega's HQ.
