Late News:

Sigma Nu closed its University of South Dakota chapter in December. Closure was due to "lack of finances and recruitment".

Alpha Delta Pi's colony at Sacred Heart handed out bids today, but it was supposed to be tomorrow. They hurried because of the storm due at any time, so we won't know for sure how many will accept their bids for a day or two. *excitement*

Alpha Kappa Lambda is returning to my campus and they are looking for members to start the fraternity. I got an email from them telling me how great of an opportunity it was for leadership roles, will look good on my resume etc they gave me the whole spiel on how great it will be. So I went to their meeting to meet potential members and I should not be judgmemental but most of the guys there seemed like the kind of people that rush and dont get bids. That being said I dont know any of them personally and they might be great guys. They have already had like 14 people join I don't feel like it will work out they don't have a house or anything and won't be officially chartered is that the right term? By AKL until next semester. Do you think this is a great opportunity for those that joined or not? If I am not suppose to mention the actual fraternity name I am sorry and will delete it.
It's at a large university where roughly 20% of kids are Greek.

Person,

Did you rush before? If so, why did you not join?

What are you looking for in a fraternity?

Why are you thinking of joining this colony? If you are looking for a resume builder, being a charter member of a fraternity/sorority might impress some employers.

It takes a lot of dedicated members to make a colony thrive. It is also a lot of hard work. Maybe the guys checking out AKL did rush and did not receive any bids, but that doesn't mean that if they join AKL that it won't be successful. Sometimes being turned down by one org. makes a person work harder to be successful.

FWIW, your question is likely to get lost in this thread, which is mainly for announcing charters, closings, expansions, etc. I'd suggest you search for threads on colonies and then if you still have questions, bump a thread on the topic or start a thread to ask them.
