Yes. And that's the prerogative of those groups.

I think overall, AI is a little more akin to NPHC intake than NPC recruitment, i.e. DISCRETION IS KEY. Even the groups that have the links on their sites want to hear why you want to be an XYZ, not why you want to be in some sorority. So you need to do your research, and then approach ONE group, not be shopping a bunch at once.

Now, if that group doesn't work out, and you decide to go down a different path, fine, but you shouldn't let everyone know you are jumping from one to the next.

Man, having a happy day off and someone bites my siggy. I'll step it up later.

And the presence of something on the website doesn't mean it is the outlook of the membership of the organization at large.

Oh, I know. My only point was that, as with so many things, blanket statements may not be helpful.

What chaps me is when a non-member criticizes a GLO's policy.

You mean like OMG I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY INVITE FACULTY WIVES TO BE MEMBERS THAT IS SO FRICKING LAME.

I think it's OK to express that you do not care for that particular policy as a whole (i.e. I don't like when sororities do that) but not to rip on one group in general (i.e. Beta Omicron Omicron is so lame to do that). If someone says it the former way, don't get your panties in a bunch even if you are thinking of it with "my sorority ears" and it sounds to you like the latter.

To clarify - I think it is one thing to say you don't like a policy; it's quite another to then opine that the group should change their policy because it is "wrong". If it works for them, good on 'em. I like our policy; I figure groups that do it differently have their reasons.

Well, we are all Panhellenic sisters and I think it's OK to express that you think something is "wrong" if you think doing it is possibly deleterious to the sorority system as a whole. Again, it's only cool if you state it in general terms, not in specifics.

I'm not going to start out addressing the past post in this thread, I just wanted to say I didn't like how combative some posters were toward new interested posters in previous threads. Whatever your feeling is I know that there are GLO's who do AI and that is great. I just couldn't believe how mean some were regarding the topic even when your particular group offers that alternative.

I don't really have an opinion on AI because my GLO doesn't offer it, but thank you for joining to chastise us for behavior on what I know are really old threads.

Besides putting those members in their place who voiced reservations about A.I.s (especially those who appear to have no ties to a particular sorority, so go shopping for membership), is there anything you would like to know or that you want to add to the thread you started-since your most recent post doesn't say anything different than your original post did.

That's nice.

Just because someone's sorority offers that option doesn't mean they have to like it.

And when people "sorority shop", we don't have to like that, either.

Just get over it and move on. I'm sure most of the people who were "so mean" don't even post on this site anymore.

I'm all for AI. I've been lucky enough to witness 3 initiations where AI's were initiated, one was a mom of an alumna.

I don't like the women who go around posting about their experiences and they are "sorority shopping". We have had some of those women, years and years ago. They posted stories about how they contacted like 3 or more sororities about AI. AI isn't like formal recruitment.

I also don't get why the OP has come on the site and is getting down on members of GC for stuff that was said YEARS ago. What is that about?

I know this thread hasn't been commented on for a few days, but I was feeling nostalgic after reading some recruitment stories and reread some of my recruitment thread, and I thought about OP and the OP in the other now locked thread and it just made me a little mad.

Here's the thing: Before you call the women on this board mean, immature, hateful, snobbish, whatever, do a little lurking. Actually read more threads than just the ones that give you an outlet for your snarkiness. The majority have been supportive, encouraging and everything else you can think of. They love their organizations and represent them well. They have been extremely kind and patient, and have seen enough disappointed women have sunshine blown up their rears to try and set realistic expectations for others. Don't like the way their orgs operate? Than just thank the Lord it's not your org and get off the site that is intended for their benefit, not yours.

There is a long list of women on this site that have given a lot of wisdom to PNM's and women that look to affiliate as alumnae. And many times they've received less than appropriate responses from women who are just really sad that they never got to go to a mixer in college.

Anyway, feel free to chalk up my irritation to hormones or whatever, just get off the high horse you showed up on and get to know people before you piss them off.
