Advice Needed!

Hi everyone! I am currently a freshman who goes to a school where greek life is pretty big. Formal recruitment occurs in the fall, and in the spring sororities do COB. I decided to not do formal recruitment in the fall, but hoped to join a sorority in the spring. My specific school has 6 chapters, and 5 of them are participating in COB events this semester. I have attended COB events for 3 different sororities and thought that everything went pretty well! I felt as if I had made connections with the sisters and had genuine conversations. However, I have not been contacted since by any of the three sororities, so I am assuming I did not receive a bid. I am especially confused since the social media accounts of these sororities say that they are still recruiting, but none of them have contacted me or sent me any updates since I have attended their COB events. I’m feeling very discouraged, confused and sad, and I am wondering why I didn’t get a bid from any chapter, and what I could have done differently. There is one more COB event next week for all the chapters, and I was wondering if I should attend that event, or just wait to participate in formal recruitment in the fall as a sophomore. I’m worried about rushing in the fall through formal recruitment, since I didn’t even get a bid from informal recruitment, which is supposed to be easier. In addition, should I email the sororities asking for a a follow up or update? Or does them not contacting me mean I did not receive a bid? Any advice is appreciated!!

If they are still having events then they probably haven't issued any bids. And you should only attend events that you've been invited to. Did you get recs for the chapters? How are your grades? And why didn't you go thru in the fall? Did you make friends in the groups fall semester?

At this point - since COB is ongoing - it's hard to say whether you will get a bid. And COB isn't necessarily easier because there are fewer slots open. For formal recruitment, if you attend pref, odds are you'll get a bid.

You could have a chat with the Greek adviser about how COB works at your school.

Hi! Thank you for the response! I'm a little confused, since some of the chapters have already had their bid day and issued bids, but they are still recruiting. I haven't gotten any recs for the chapters, since not many chapters take them into consideration at my school. My grades were really good, and I decided to not go through recruitment in the fall since I was hoping to get adjusted to college life during covid. I didn't meet a lot of people in the chapters, and was wondering if this was a reason I didn't get a bid? Our school does not have a Greek life advisor available during informal recruitment, so should I contact a panhellenic executive instead?

Recs are always a good idea...as you never know which groups require them nationally and which don't. And not meeting many sorority women could have an impact. And I assure you the school has a Greek Life adviser. You need to talk with him/her...not a PH officer.
