So if u have a DD who is an active member of a sorority and her sister comes to the same school and rushes. Is she pretty much quaranteed a space at that house if they are very similar girls ?

Not an IU grad, but I'd say life holds NO guarantees (other than death and sometimes taxes) not even for an IU sorority legacy.
Any girl anywhere who goes thru rush thinking she 'has it made' to join her Mom's, her Aunt's, her Grandmother's and/or her sister's sorority is only setting herself up for disappointment. That's why posters on GC encourage women to have an open mind toward all our NPC groups during their recruitment and pledge periods.

*note: general answer, not specific to IU*
I will concur with Cheerio above and also state that I have seen in house/sitting sister legacies be cut. It's not the norm but it does happen. Some reasons: grades, attitude, and risk management issues. I've also seen RM issues on the part of the older sister impact the younger sister's recruitment because the chapter didn't want to deal with 2 headaches from the same family.
In addition, I've seen plenty of younger sisters opt to chart their own course and choose different sororities than big sister, even when big sister was still in the chapter.

They have always had quota, for awhile it was bed quota. Now it's Panhel sets a minimum number and chapters are allowed to go over it, but not intentionally under.

So it's more in line with how it's done everywhere else? I'm assuming this means lots more girls get bids? I know it was not so good for many years.
Congrats to all the moms and new members on this thread!
Just out of curiousity, has anyone read Paying for the Party (Armstrong?) She's a researcher and her research took place at IU. It's excellent.

following up with the questions about quota, did we figure out for sure if a PNM maximizes her options in pref round that she is guaranteed a bid - sorry I missed this being answered already. Am hoping that this didn't happen to any PNM's this year!

Um, this is just about the happiest IU thread we've ever had here. Everyone is thrilled and getting their first choices. Has something changed? Is having the additional chapters helping? Is it just random that this year there are so many positive outcomes on GC?
Whatever the circumstances, congrats to all!

No, but now I want to read it, since it's about my alma mater and from the bits and pieces I was able to read in the preview, I'm pretty sure I know which dorm they were in. (If it's the one I think it is, I lived there freshman and sophomore year.)
