Your GLO's award-winning chapters?

Sometimes when I'm reading recruitment stories, I'll click through to the Panhellenic site and then look at the individual chapter sites. Every so often I see that such and such chapter of XYZ won an award as a top chapter for their organization.

So I'm curious! Which chapters have been recognized by your national organization over the past five years as being the best chapters overall? What is the award called, who is it named for, and what is the criteria?

Thanks!

I am very proud to say that my very own Mu Chapter of Alpha Phi Omega was named a Chapter of Excellence (and also received a Pledge Program of Excellence award) at the 2008 convention.

^^^ So did my home chapter, in both categories.

Alpha Phi Alpha has an award called Chapter of the Year for both collegiate and alumni chapters. I do not know the criteria but unlike APO, only one chapter may win nationally. The competition starts on the District level, with the district winner competing against other district winners regionally, then the regional winner competing nationally.

A chapter must apply and create a presentation that demonstrates that they met and exceeded the requirements of a chapter.

Our chapter won a few awards this year at our convention.
-Recruitment Award
-Academic Excellence award
-2 of our brothers won the Order Of The Sphinx award for outstanding undergrad work.
-We also got the citation of Merit award which was given to 6 out of 120 or so chapters,
We were finalists one of 12 chapters for the Pyramids Of Excellence which is the biggest award a chapter can earn.

Kappa Sigma doesn't have a "Chapter of the Year" award, but it has a couple of different levels of awards that chapters could win. The first level is the FACE award (Founders Award for Chapter Excellence), which goes to something between 10-20 chapters. Then, there is the Founders Circle Award, which only goes to about a handful of chapters.

When I was in school (and later when I was an assistant alumnus advisor) it had to do with a combination of factors dealing with all aspects of chapter operations. I'm not sure of the particular standards these days.

Not my GLO or school, but hey -- big time congratulations to the Alpha Tau Omega chapter at Emory:

http://www.emorywheel.com/detail.php?n=27165

Excerpt from article on the Emory Wheel's site:

For the first time in the 144-year history of the national Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, a single university, Emory, has won top national chapter, top brother in the nation and top scholarship awards in the same year.

“They’ve worked hard over the past several years to win each of these awards,” ATO faculty adviser Santa Ono said.

The top chapter award is based upon criteria such as chapter leadership, solid finances and brotherhood events, ATO president Michael Turgeon said. Emory’s ATO fraternity has won the top national chapter award twice in the past three years. The top scholarship award is given to the chapter with the highest cumulative GPA, Turgeon said.

Nicolai Lundy (’09C) received the award for top brother in the nation, also known as the Thomas Arkle Clark award, which is given to the “most outstanding senior of all the brothers of all the chapters in the whole country,” Ono said. . . .

I have to brag a little. Tri Delta has a rating system to make sure we are "living our purpose". Last year we missed it by a couple of points. This year, not only did my chapter exceed it, we got a 86, which means we are a one start chapter and get special recognition at convention. I'm SO EXCITED.

The Buchanan (Buc) Cup is our most prestigious chapter award. A few chapters get it every year (they haven't posted yet who just got them at Conclave) and if you win 5 consecutive ones (they're given every other year), you get a golden one for a decade of excellence.

The highest honor a Delta Chi chapter can receive is the Presidents Cup. It chosen from among chapters who have won the Award of Excellence. Awards are given in two divisions, the Red Division and the Buff Division; divisions are based on chapter size and campus average size.

This year three chapters won in each division, I can't remember if its always three in each or if it varies...

Our highest award is Chapter of the Triennium, announced every 3 years at Convention. The 2007 winner is Zeta Pi at Virginia Wesleyan College.

We also have a Chapter of the Year. I believe this year's winner was Alpha Chi at Murray State.

Our Highest award is the Diamond Award. This year it went to the Zeta chapter at Dartmouth, the Xi chapter at Wesleyan and a honorable mention to the Omicron chapter at UIUC.

The Sig Ep chapter at my school has a banner hanging from their house saying that they received this award, so congratulations to them!

On another note, my chapter of Tri Delta is also a one-star chapter as well.

We have levels of Chapter Excellence, but our highest honor is The Golden Lion Award. In order to acheive it, the chapter must have more than one year in each of the other levels.

I'm thrilled to say that Zillini and ADqtPi's chapters both won this summer! My chapter won the Stanard Award, which is one step below. *crosses fingers*
