Lightbulb What's your favorite non-profit org. and why?

I'd have to say two: The American Red Cross and the United Negro College Fund.

The ARC because they provide immediate relief for those in need around the globe.

The United Negro College Fund because it awards scholarships to deserving young people who otherwise might not have made it to college. And they support our HBCUs.

Good question....
Well after Zeta ...

I had an internship with United Way (Chicago) and I must say that I admire the work that they do. Not only do they fund hundreds of organizations throughout the city they also have a hands-on approach to communities. I think its so easy for major non-profits to just hand out money and not even think twice of actually going to the location and working with the community.

Christmas in April

I believe it's sponsored by a lot of different organizations/corporations.

My favorite org. is Planned Parenthood. I really think they are changing the dynamics of college campuses by providing free birth control to the students, which in turn decreases the amount of students who drop out due to unplanned pregnancy.

I really like the American Red Cross also. I've always liked donating blood because there's always a need. The ARC has also been helpful in Atlanta and throughout the SE since all of the insane rains that we've had. Whatever was a disaster area was helped tremendously by the ARC.

My favorite would have to be the American Diabetes Association. I feel a special closeness to them because so many of my relatives are affected by the disease. Hopefully there will be a cure!

Good question. Nationally, I'd probaby say the Salvation Army.

Locally, The Lord's Diner, which serves free meals to the homeless/low income population of our city 365 days a year.

Make A Wish Foundaton and the American Cancer Society at the national level--

At the collegiate level--Mortar Board Inc. whose permanent service project is Reading is Leading to encourage reading and literacy at all ages

Locally--Birmingham Hospitality Network--this is a great organization that helps provide shelter and food for homeless families who could be split up otherwise ( some shelters will now allow sons to stay with their mothers if they are over the age of 10-12)..neat thing about this is that about 20 churches rotate serving the families...the families rotate from one church to the next on a weekly basis. the churches provide meals, company, and security by staying with them at night.
