Smile Community Service

I am a college student, and at most of the dorms on campus they have volunteers that are asked to sit the desk when RA's(Resident Assitance) are not able to. What I wanted to know is is that considered community service. I am involved in another community service activity where we go tutor children for about and hour and a half once a week, I just wanted to get your ideas on this one though.

This is a general, rhetorical question regarding public service:

How has your public service benefited someone, changed someone's life, or my a lasting impact?

Just a little something to ponder.
