1. Having a tatoo that could be interpreted as a symbol of "rival" organization and having big brothers discover it. Then have them gently scape it off (bit by bit) each night till it is beyond recognition with a metal brush.
2. Get tortured so bad that you literally hop inside a campus police car pleading for help. Officer smiles and reveals tatoo showing he is a member of the organization you are getting initiated into, so you have no choice but to dash back out of the car and run for your life.
These were two separate incidents from different organizations.

Wow, craziness. I saw a report on TV last night about hazing. It had HS sports teams, fraternities (Chi Tau fraternity and an AKA sorority chapter), and military. I forget what school XT was from, but I know AKA was at Cal State LA, and nationals had revoked their charter before the incidents on TV.
At Chi Tau, a pledge died from water hazing. He basically drank too much water and overloaded his system. The AKA chapter made 4 of their pledges do "exercises" on the beach. When they went to rinse off in the ocean, two of them got swept out by the tide and died.

The E! THS - Hazing.
The fraternity was actually Chi Tau and was once a chapter of Delta Sigma Phi before the HQ revoked their charter. I think Chi Delta's a local/regional fraternity (or sorority) somewhere, so I just wanted to make sure they weren't erroneously accused of Matt Carrington's water death.
IIRC, the AKA "chapter" at CSU-LA was not a recognized chapter so they shouldn't have been doing member intake anyway.
You might be interested in reading the discussion that went on as the events occurred. I was curious to see what E! was going to feature in their THS, and to be honest, kinda bummed that it was the same old shit all over again.

Chi Tau was at CSU Chico. I remember reading about Greeks getting trouble there left and right in a fairly short period of time.
As far as Santa Cruz goes, you might be thinking about Delta Omega Chi, subject of MTV's Fraternity Life 2 -- better known as the idiots who killed and ate the beloved campus pet fish.

Woops! I didn't think I had the fraternity's name right. I was afraid I'd erroneously blame another group! Sorry!
AND! I know AKA is a sorority. In my defense, I wasn't sure if it was a sorority and a women's fraternity (Kappa is a women's fraternity.) I should have just looked it up. Duh! Sorry to any AKAs out there, too.
And no, Chi Tau isn't a GLO at Santa Cruz. You may be thinking of Delta Omega Chi (called DOC) at UC Santa Cruz. They were on fraternity life a while ago.

You, and Lucy, are right. I had always thought it was the same group.

Some of the worst sorority hazings I have heard are,
1. Girls were forced to get naked and sit on newspaper and watch porn, and the first one to "get wet" was beat up.
2. Girls had to get naked and sit on a washing machine and the sisters circled the fat that jiggled, and the pledges had to lose that weight before they became a sister.

this happened at my school, it was probably one of the saddest stories. Cu has taken a very active hand in trying to make sure something like this never happens again. they have done alot to cause awareness and change the way things are. Any I dont know if its been posted before on here, but there was even a movie called HAZE and it was on 60 mins, but here is is:
"On September 17th, 2004, Lynn Gordon Bailey Jr. ("Gordie") was found dead at the Chi Psi Fraternity house at the University of Colorado at Boulder. On the evening of September 16th, Gordie and twenty-six other pledges dressed in coats and ties for "bid night", were taken blindfolded to the Arapaho Roosevelt National Forest where they were “encouraged” to drink four "handles" (1.75 liter bottles) of whiskey and six (1.5 liter) bottles of wine around a bonfire in 30 minutes. They were told, “no one is leaving here until these are gone.” When the group returned to the Fraternity house, Gordie was visibly intoxicated and did not drink anymore. He was placed on a couch to “sleep it off” at approximately 11pm. His brothers proceeded to write on his body in another fraternity ritual. Gordie was left to "sleep it off" for 10 hours before he was found dead the next morning, face down on the floor. No one had called for help."

I heard of a sorority that got suspended because they made pledged strip naked and perform oral on a banana while the sisters beat them with paddles.
