My new badge came in! It's beautiful, but you're right honeychile, not only has the engraving gotten worse from the older/vintage badges, but it's completely illegible compared to my original badge from 18 years ago! It's about half the size!

How disappointing! I've been questioned why I prefer the vintage pins, especially pre-1960, and the engraving is just one reason why. There seems to be a much better type of workmanship in the older pins (although I'd practically KILL for an Adelphean or Alpha Delta Phi pin!).
I love our pin - to me, the ability to customize means that while we all wear the Black Diamond, we are still individuals. Sisters to the end!

Badge Guy's 1869 Pin

I was hoping that maybe someone might recognize this old society or be able to look at their own school to see if there were any groups that match.
Thanks

This pin is beautiful. Could this be a group that later became PEO? Their badge is a star with the letters in the center.
So glad you work on the history of these items. For me you provided info on Phi Tau, a local that later was absorbed by Tri-Delta at Miami University. Wish I had been in the antique store for that one.

Maybe some of you more experienced badge collector can shed some light on this for me... Is it odd or what you yourself with your collection run across multiple pins from the same chapter with_in a couple year time frame?
With my most recent purchase I have 3 pins from the same chapter within a 3 year pledge period...I was just wondering if that's weird or if some of y'all have experienced this before?

Surprisingly, I don't think it's odd. In the last couple years there have been about four or five old 1800s Sigma Phi pins to appear on the market if you will, and all of them were from the Hobart chapter.
I guess it depends on the chapters and their communications and relations with their alumni. I suppose if the older alumni fall out of touch with the organization then when they pass their pins end up not back with the groups, but with an estate auctioneer.
MHO.

My first question would be is the chapter still active? I am appalled at the number of women who consider their sorority experience for college only!

This chapter is active... but these are from the 50s so I doubt this gentlemen has any sort of link to the current chapter since it merged and changed names since then. I just thought it was odd to stumble upon (and buy) so many pins from one chapter.
But yes it is disheartening to see so many new pins from the 90s and 00s that are appearing...I pledged in 05 and I lost my pin in a move and it was disheartening and that was how I got myself into it.

This was sold on that site a few days back, and I had to save the pictures because it is GORGEOUS. From 1926, rose gold and yellow gold combo, with amazing detail. I cannot get over how much I love this.

I do! I didn't save the pic with the clasp (sorry, clasp fans), but I did snag this one:
