The Class of 2009

Quote:
BELOIT, Wis. - For this year's crop of college freshmen, Starbucks has always been around the corner, "America's Funniest Home Videos" has always been on the air, and men named George Bush have been president for more than half of their lives.

Born in 1987, the freshmen attending their first college lectures around the country this term grew up with pay-per-view television and voice mail on their phones, dirty dancing at school proms, and the United States as the only superpower.

Kind of sad that these some of these kids don't know how to tie a tie, no?

I didn't know how to tie a tie until I got to college.

I love the comment about the Big Dig at the bottom of the article -it really has been going on forever.

Unhappy

Sad, and they probably never heard of Cuff Links and French Cuffs. Or even shirts with Collars.

T-Shirts and Cut off baggy jeans or just baggy shorts.

I just went 'back to school' this year, and 1987!

Is that what it's like to 'feel old'?

It only gets worse from what I understand...

This doesn't have to do with college, but still makes me feel old:

Do you realize that there are kids in high school now who were born in the 90s??? Damn.

That's how I learned - there were far too many formal events for me not to know. Plus, you didn't want to make a bad impression with a poorly-tied tie.

Even I know how to tie a tie.... And I'm a girl! Hehe. It was just about the first thing I learned back when I worked in a men's clothing store. Now I have become a snob about the way men tie their ties. yikes.
