So, I think we're going to do save-the-dates because we have such a huge number of out-of-town guests that we plan to invite. Are we supposed to send save-the-dates to everyone, or just those guests? I've been advised both ways, but I feel like there could be potential misunderstandings/hurt feelings if one person got a save-the-date, another didn't, etc.

Send a save the date to all guests. I've heard to send save the dates 4-6 months prior to your invitations being sent out.

I may have spent $3,000 on my wedding, and almost 8 years later, I don't regret not having a bigger wedding. We're talking about renewing our vows at 10 years, but would still keep it smallish.

I love infographics--seriously. I really would like to know how much people are paying for their venue in order for the average to be 12k. I know of a few venues in Chicago that are in the 5-7k range.

^^^It's not hard to spend that much. Especially when you're dealing with a larger metro area. Many of my planning clients are in So Cal, and $12,000 doesn't even begin to get you a nice venue there. Same for NYC and some other larger cities as well. A lot of my Cleveland friends couldn't find anything lower than that.

Around here, the venue cost is usually in the per plate price, along with alcohol and sometimes centerpieces, chair covers, etc.

^^ I feel like what the info graphic is talking about is venue rental/deposit, since it lists catering costs separately. I have a sorority sister who paid 7k on a venue here in Chicago just to reserve her date..which I think is crazy. But then again, I'm having a small wedding at a venue where my small deposit will go towards our (in house) catering.

Mine was $20,000 in 1989. But that said the average guest list is 153. I had 350.

My second one was $5000 in 1993 with 105 guests (only 12 of which were mine).

I had a LOT more fun at the second one because it was so laid back and casual in comparison so I didn't worry about all the little details.

There's a level of asceticism with brides that I've noticed that kind of bothers me.

A bride who may be on a lower budget will look at a higher budget bride and be all "OMG how WASTEFUL! I could NEVER spend that much on a wedding."

Like, wtf? Everyone has their own personal idea of what is affordable for them.

It has also been my experience (doing planning assistant stuff with a company) that the LOWER the budget, the more annoying and demanding the client will be. There's almost a set number that when I see it, I just know that this person is going to be ridiculous and I have never been wrong.

It's interesting because it's always perpetuated that big budget = big bitchy entitled bride, and that's so not true.
