Hi everybody!
First of all, I hope you're all enjoying your holiday season. I'm sorry for the long message, but any help or expertise would be
greatly appreciated!!
I'm a freshman at a state university which has formal recruitment in the Spring. I've been signed up for a while, and I'm so excited! I'm from pretty far away, and I know joining a sorority will help me find a home away from home and get really involved on campus. I have wanted to be in a sorority since I was a little girl, and I can't believe the opportunity is finally here.
My first semester was kind of rough: as a bioengineering major in the Honors College, I was taking five academic classes plus two labs. Between that and being homesick/adjusting to college life, my GPA for first semester was a 2.8. This is the minimum GPA for most chapters on my campus (some are 2.5 or 2.7). Next semester, I'm taking fewer classes (no labs!) and will be able to handle it better. I definitely took on too much first semester, and did not realize it until after the drop period. I attend my University on a scholarship which requires a 3.2 GPA, so no matter what I have to attain that. I am confident that I will be able to.
Since the GPA is based on only one semester, I was wondering how badly it will affect me during recruitment. It's not like I'm a junior, for example, going through recruitment with a 2.8. I know it's different at every school, and based off what I've seen on this website, I do not believe my school has a particularly competitive recruitment. I know it is vital for me to have an open mind, and luckily I have met wonderful women in every chapter on my campus. I know I could be happy anywhere, I just want to find the chapter that I feel the most at home at.
Thank you all so so much in advance for any advice you can give me. Happy holidays!
