sorority girls obtaining recs for PNMs?

I've have heard from a few people that if a sorority likes you a lot during rush, but you don't have a recommendation for them, they'll somehow obtain one for you. How exactly does this work? Who do they get to write the rec?

This happens on some campuses and not on others. They will ask an alumna from their chapter who may be an advisor or someone very active in the chapter. If you go to a very competitive school, do not plan on this happening.

Because we can't emphasize this enough. If your school is in this thread - you need to submit recs to the chapters BEFORE RUSH, no exceptions. They may like you a lot, but there may be another girl with a rec that they like just as much. Don't be passive and expect things to be done for you. In this case they may not be and you'll be the one who's sorry. Good luck!

This possibly gets into member selection and back-office rules. My understanding is that some sororities require a recommendation for all members and they will do what it takes to cross all the t's to get the girls they want. But I can't imagine, as stated above, that a super-competitive chapter would spend much time on gathering recs for girls who should have known enough to get them on their own.

This is true, but it is not so much a punishment for uninformed PNMs as it is the sheer logistics of it. When there are 1200 PNMs coming thru the doors during the first round of parties and the PNM will get 15 or 20 minutes max to dazzle the sorority members, it is easier to eliminate the women that the sorority does not have any background information(Recommendations) on, along with the women whose grades fall below that sorority's requirements. Quick decisions have to be made based on the best information available.
