Besides the FTC and any other regularitory angency there is, as pointed out in stories, a whole mess of hardware and software issues to over come.

well yeah, but still. It is absurd to have two companies that do the same thing put each other out of business when one company can be profitable and offer the promiced service.

DF-

I hope the FCC keeps its hands off this, they are going after cable.

As much as they want it, they don't have the right to. And the moment they got it I'd be on satellite TV so fast their heads would spin. Actually if we'd just get rid of the Parents TV authority or whatever the group is that sends in 99.9% of the complaints the FCC wouldn't bother me.

/but right now they can suck my internet balls
//still tired

As long as they don't take my Sirius Broadway and Met Opera off Dish Network, I could give two shits what happens with both companies.

I can't imagine how they'd get around the antitrust issues.

This would indeed be absurd if it were how markets are supposed to work - however, this could only happen through a terrible business model (which merging would not alleviate - their debt still carries), so I think I'd prefer the competition.

The anti-trust issues are massive here - remember, the gov't nixed the merger of DirecTV and EchoStar 3 or 4 years ago, which would seem considerably more kosher.

Yeah, it's weird to me that a user or consumer would happy to see the lack of competition.

With one company if you've got the hardware, they're pretty much going to own you as far as what they can charge for fees etc, right?

I like Sirius, but if somebody took it away I and most people would survive. This is contrasted with cable/satellite. I agree that competition is good, but when the broadcast rights are so restricted the competition becomes a burden for consumers. Its completely impractical for people to have both Sirius and XM, but if you like NASCAR and _____ University athletics, you're out of luck.

The FCC has nothing to do with it you "Moron" and/or "Maroon" (There's no way you're savvy enough to know "moran" and who says Maroon except Bugs Bunny?)

It's the FTC that may not allow it. It's like you don't even read the thread before you click the little Quick Reply button...

Wait, what?!! This doesn't make sense. Even if it did and I understood what you're trying to say, you're missing the point that the general reasoning for not allowing mergers like this one is to protect consumers from being screwed. The FCC and the DOJ's Antitrust Division aren't trying to be "Big Brother" here.
