I work in the apartment business. We hate apartmentratings.com! It's like the great big bathroom wall of the internet where anyone can write anything.
Someone I interviewed for a job posted a really nasty bogus review on apartmentratings.com for one of our properties. The review included many libelous accusations about our company, its practices, and some members of the staff. The apartmentratings.com site owner refused to remove it, even though it was clearly not a resident's review of the property (and in violation of their user agreement). We've also had negative reviews posted about our properties by our COMPETITORS. So, take that into consideration when you read the reviews there.
Some other sites you might want to try are:
Rent.com -- this one pays you $100 if you rent an apartment from its listings. All you need to do is make sure that you tell the agent on your first contact that Rent.com is where you saw the property. (We pay them a flat fee per rental rather than a monthly listing fee, and that's how they can afford to do this.)
ForRent.com
Good luck!
