Why is 25 the "magic number"?
What's so special about turning 25? I'm on a mailing list for activities for young people that occur in Toronto, and many of them say that they're for 25+ What's so special about that age? I want to go to some of these activities, but I'm worried that they'll not let me in because I don't turn 25 until September. I mean, it's not like I'm renting a car or anything. I thought that they couldn't deny me entrance to a bar (which is where most of these things take place) if I'm over 19 (the legal drinking age in Ontario).

Nope, any bar can deny you entrance. They can deny you entrance if they think you're intoxicated, if you arent dressed properly or you don't meet their age standards, pretty much any superfical thing. These are private establishments and they can choose who they let in whether or not you're of legal age or not.
The Devil's Martini in Toronto is a 25+ bar. However I got in because they didn't card me (I can pass for 25...go me!). Anyway, their resoning behind the 25+ age requirment is that they are catering to a "mature" crowd. I can tell you the crowd is not mature in that place (the club sucked!), but that is their resoning.

I don't know either. I just turned 25 myself a month ago and feel pretty much the same as I did when I was 24. Well, maybe a little older now that I'm closer to 30.
I know in the states car insurance rates go down when you turn 25 and you are able to rent a car and drive it yourself.

It's just that these parties are supposed to be for "professional" people (aka "cubicle people", I guess), and those are the type of guys that I want (well, prefer) to date. I want to use these parties to meet people, especially guys.

I turn 25 April 1st and my insurance will go down and should be fairly cheap since I've had no speeding tickets or anything like that, and unlike my sister I've had no DUI's.
About renting cars....I think it just depends. I've been renting cars from enterprise since I was 23 with no trouble at all.

From a marketing point of view, turning 25 moves you into the next demographic age level (at least in Canada it does) - welcome to the demographic: 25-54.

Why not just show up to one of these events? I had no problem getting into a bar that was 25+ even though I was 23. They didn't ID me. The bouncer tried to card my friend who was 27, but she looks young. She just gave him a hard time and convinced him she was of age...which she was. Never checked her ID.
