Question IU Informal

Hey everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone knows what houses have done informal rush in the past at Indiana U, or how it works.
Also, I was wondering what might have been some reasons I got cut and when the houses look at grade point averages.

Thanks bunches.

From what I gather from reading a variety of threads on IU recruitment, very few (if any) chapters participate, since recruitment there is so competitive and it appears that most (if not all) chapters meet their quota/total numbers easily during formal recruitment.

We can't tell you why you were dropped from recruitment. We do not discuss membership selection on GC, and it varies from chapter to chapter. However, many times a low GPA will be an obvious reason. Your first semester grades or your cumulative college GPA would have been considered in the current recruitment period.

I can't tell you for sure, but probably after the first round. As soon as they know they can't pledge you, they'd cut you, and if you didn't meet the grade requirement, you would be an automatic cut. If you met the minimum gpa but it was close, that's a different story, and then nobody can give you any sort of suggestion (again, member selection is privileged information) as to whether that was a reason for being cut or not.

I'm sorry it didn't work for you. If this mysterious new unhoused chapter ever DOES happen on campus while you're in college, do give them a shot. It wouldn't be the same, but it would still be a great sorority experience.

Chapters don't necessarily cut early for grades. It would be nice if they did, but if that means having less-than-full parties, they may not.

I would do informal recruitment if ANY houses are particitpating. I know my chapter has found some amazing members through informal recruitment. Usually a couple of chapters will participate and give bids to a couple of new members through that process. But it varies each year

Regarding the whole issue with grades, I know girls who met the Panhel requirement but missed the actual chapter requirement and were invited back to 14, 8, and sometimes even 3 party. It confused me because from the way I saw it, if you failed to meet the minimum for a chapter, you were automatically cut.
