Old Letters

Hi!
So I found a really old sweatshirt in my dad's old clothes with the Alpha Epsilon Pi letters on it. I know he wasn't an AEPi, so what should I do with them? I know how much letters mean to a GLO, so can you help me treat them with respect and do what the fraternity would like with them, please? Thanks!

If you don't have any connection to an AEPi to give it to, I would suggest cutting it up so it can't be worn and throwing it away. The last think you want is a non-member to find it in a rummage sale.

You may want to check with family members before you get rid or cut it up. There may be a family connection to it.

As an example, I come from a family with lots of cousins. One cousin is 13 years older and when he completed college; my aunt (his mom) boxed up a bunch of his old clothes and gave them to my Mother for us “younger boys” to use as “play clothes”. Included was a well worn (and now smaller) fraternity sweatshirt. I remember wearing it off and on up to maybe junior high school. It ended up being put away with other worn clothes. Years later, my brother came across the box and was able to get the sweatshirt back to our cousin's nephew – who happened to have joined the same GLO. Even though our cousin's nephew never wore the sweatshirt, he was very pleased to get his uncle's sweatshirt. As I recall his girlfriend (at the time) made it into a pillow or pillow cover - something along those lines.

I don't have a direct connection to AEPi, but there is a chapter of one on my campus.

If you don't have any AEPi relatives or friends, and if it is a sweatshirt with stitched-on letters, I suggest cutting the fabric of the letters off the shirt. You could then wear the plain sweatshirt or donate it to charity.

When my local became an AEPhi colony, I took a sweatshirt with my local's letters, brought it to the local "Greek Stuff" store, and asked them to change the letters.

I doubt a T-shirt would survive the process, though. I still have a few T-shirts with my local's letters, for that reason.

Then just give them to the chapter.

I had an old coat with letters on it that was way too big, so I just took off the letters and stitching and donated the coat.
