Neither is a standard small crown Theta badge (it's only about 3/4" in length, actually). On the other hand, I've seen some mighty fine Dyers that ARE "that big", especially the ones with elongated tails. Sigh.

CONGRATULATIONS!! Was it the pin about which you spoke?
As for size, that quill is almost twice the size as the ADPi diamond pin! But the quill is so delicate, and the diamond is full, so I guess it balances out. I've always loved the quill!

I had a dream last night that I got my badge & another sister was helping me adjust it on my whites. I think maybe my subconscious is way excited to get my badge.

Thanks honey! It's a ZTA mother's pin. My mom already has one, courtesy of my sister, but I couldn't resist. Maybe I'll have it set as a charm or something.
According to USPS tracking, it's waiting at home for me! :-)

Here it is! It could use a little cleaning, but the enamel is in good shape.
Now this is a little odd to me. See the loop on the back? Like where you'd attach a guard or dangle? I'm not sure what that's for, because to my knowledge there's nothing you'd attach to a mother's pin. Any ZTAs have any ideas?

Badge Ring Repair Update
I contacted the gentleman with whom I have had previous e-mail conversations regarding my ring. He told me that the problem was the enamel was cracking. I pointed out that the only time I have lost enamel was when I sent the ring in to be repaired, and wasn't it odd that the enamel only chipped off/melted off/whatever exactly where the clasp was located? He said he would get back to me; the final deal offered me was to replace the base (basically, the black enamel crescent). It would normally be $80, but for me, special deal! They took off $20, which since the right side had been damaged by a local jeweler earlier seemed fair to me. I'll have my beautiful badge ring restored to its full glory. Hooray!
(I should point out that it helped when I told him that if you google image "Gamma Phi Beta Badge" a picture of my two rings appears - he did. It did. He said "Now I feel really bad", to which I replied "Good! Fix it!". ) All's well that ends well.

There's a gorgeous picture of an vintage opal Kappa badge in my History 2000 book, but I don't have access to a scanner right now so I can't put it up. I went Googling and didn't find it, but came across this awesome blog of vintage badges. Here's what they have for opals:
http://npcsororitybadges.blogspot.co...ch/label/opals
My absolute favorite is the 1944 Theta badge at the bottom of the badge. Stunning.
I love opals and I think they look gorgeous on badges, but Kappa doesn't offer it as an option. Does anyone know how much it would cost to have opals set in a badge? Is that even feasible? I have absolutely no concept of what "after market" badge detailing would involve, but it would be such a lovely, unique thing to have if I could get it done. And I doubt I'll ever find a vintage opal KKG badge, much less one I could afford...
ETA: Just found this old thread about opal badges!

Here is my pearl and ruby badge next to the standard size badge. There was a trend for several years to have a mini badge option.

elicampbell - both are beautiful! I love the shine of the pearls on the left badge. I have to admit though, I'm a sucker for pearls so those badges are usually my favorites.
Is the edging on the right badge chased or brushed gold?

No, the badge is "gold gloss" the edges are scratched.

Hey, groovy and others:
A half hour or so ago I saw a mother's pin from a different NPC organization -- not ZTA -- on The Site That Shall Never Be Mentioned On Account Of How Awful It Is Plus It's So Hard To Win Anything.
Anyway, from the the pic of that pin, looks like it too has a little loop for a chain.
My guess, and it's just a guess, is that some mothers might choose to chain a mother's pin to their own NPC group badge, or to their husband's fraternity (or sweetheart) pin, to the mother's pin of another child, or to some other pin or badge (maybe a P.E.O. emblem, for instance -- I've certainly seen P.E.O. stars chained to badges of NPC groups).
How about it -- has anyone seen a mother's pin chained to anything a la the guesses above?

Forgive me, but on both my work and home computers, no picture shows up...

Are you sure that it's a Mother's Pin? A Sweetheart Pin would have the little loop.
I'm just seeing the dreaded red X too.
