Sad news at Theta Eta/Stephen F. Austin

This was sent to me by another Theta Eta member:

"Theta Eta got some tragic news tonight regarding one of their newly initiated members. Brittany Nabors was driving from Austin back to Nacogdoches early this evening (Sunday) and was killed in a car accident near Crockett. The girls gathered tonight at the house to lean on each other, share information and pray. Three advisors were there for support, and two grief counselors spoke with them. They are working out plans for several ways to remember Brittany including a rememberance service at the ZTA house, an on-campus memorial service, releasing turquoise and gray balloons at this weekend's football game, wearing black ribbons for 3 days, and giving turquoise and gray ribbons to the other sororities to wear in her memory. Tomorrow night a pastor will come speak to the chapter during their chapter meeting time. Please keep the girls, as well as Brittany's family, in your thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time."

Brittany was initiated just 2 weeks ago. The house's address is 514 N. Steen, Nacogdoches, TX, 75961 if anyone wants to send a card.

This is very sad news, my heart goes out to the chapter.

If you are communicating with the PP or GA, please advise the chapter to not release balloons in her memory. While initially this is a beautiful gesture, once the baloons return to the ground, they become a dangerous environmental hazard for wildlife of all sorts, especially fish and water mammals that may attempt to eat the balloon, thinking it is a food item.

Not only that but they can also be aviation hazards.

I will be praying for her family....

Brittany Kathleen Nabors

Brittany Kathleen Nabors was suddenly called to be with her Lord on November 6, 2005.

Brittany was born on September 17, 1986 at Seton Hospital in Austin, Texas. She will be remembered for her beautiful red hair even from the moment she was born.

Survivors include her parents Rick and Jill Nabors of Austin; brother, Brett Garrett Nabors of Dallas; grandmother, Joyce Hauke of Midland; uncles and aunts; Mike and Julie Nabors of Rockwall, Jeff and Sunny Hauke of Sugarland, Nancy and Larry Beaulieu of Beaumont, Janine and Larry Petersen of San Antonio and numerous cousins.

Brittany was a 2005 graduate of James Bowie High School and a three-year member of the Silver Stars Drill Team. She was currently a freshman at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority.

Brittany knew that happiness is a journey - not a destination. She exemplified this through her passion for Brad Paisley, desire to be organized and presenting every welcoming hand with her beautiful smile and encouraging nature. She loved like she'd never been hurt and danced her last dance as if no one's watching.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Riverbend Church Fellowship Hall, 4214 N. Capital of Texas Hwy. ( Loop 360) with Dr. Gordon Smith, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Zeta Tau Alpha Philanthropic Charity, The Komen Foundation, P.O. Box 650309, Dallas, Texas 75265-0309. Arrangements by Harrell Funeral Home, 4435 Frontier Trail, Austin, Texas 78745. (512) 443-1366

Published in the Austin American-Statesman on 11/9/2005.
