I'm not sure the RFM specialist takes that into account when giving chapters their carry figures.

Absolutely correct, at least in this year's rush at UM.

Do RFM specialists sometimes take upcoming colonizations into account when giving carry figures?

OF COURSE they do. Remember the point of RFM... and how that has to be managed to allow for a successful colonization.

I'm not trained in RFM policies, and I don't know anything about making allowances for upcoming colonizations. If this is common knowledge, then I apologize for my ignorance.

My niece is going through recruitment at Ole Miss right now so any information about what to expect would be appreciated.

Would love to hear how she did/where she ends up.

I'm amazed that UM doesn't hold recruitment right before school starts.

Apparently that happens at UGA, too. A friend's sister would have been the typical UGA (SEC) sorority girl--blonde, beautiful, on the Homecoming court, etc, but got cut heavily and dropped out of rush. This was in the 90s so before RFM. Many girls who have never dealt with rejection can't handle it and drop out of recruitment. I admire the gals who stick it out.

They are in midterms right now. It's a tough schedule for PNMs, but it must be absolutely brutal for the actives...

They did have rush prior to school starting though the 90's. Then the University administration insisted that it be changed. Girls used to immediately leave school, if they did not get the rush results that they wanted. They would go to another school where they had been accepted to try rushing there. Seriously. Now rush is held after the last date to drop out of school and get a refund on the semester.

Right now it's about the fruit-basket-turnover construction going on. Three chapters are building. There are "old" houses that two of the groups are temporarily occupying, but ZTA decided to go ahead and build, so they do not have a house right now. There are 3 more after that, but they are on the other end of the row. Once the construction madness settles down a bit, there might be some space cleared for another group to come in. It could take another 2 to 3 years, though.

Wow! Can't believe that happened. I think UGA does rush right before school starts. Holy crap. I think if I'd gone to an SEC school, I would have waited the next semester and found a house who was COBing. Another friend of mine who went to UGA dropped out of formal but later met some GPhiBs in class and they invited her out and she joined them and loved it. I've always heard over and over that UGA is mega brutal--at least in the 90s it was.

Yes, I went to UGA as a freshman and mismatched in the early eighties. You really need to know someone in the house who is pulling for you or you get dropped because there are always PNMs who do know someone who is pulling for them.
