HottyToddy1, you might want to note that Alpha Phi is colonizing this year at Ole Miss. I believe that they will participate only in the first round of parties during formal recruitment. Then they will complete their colonization recruitment after formal recruitment is over.

Random question regarding recruitment at Ole Miss, are shorts appropriate to wear during the first round? I have a family friend who is going through recruitment this year, and my instinct says yes, but I am not that familiar with recruitment in the south! =)

Yes. The chapter members and PNMs will all be wearing similar tshirts (just different colors) for open house rounds. Shorts will probably be worn by most chapters and PNMs although I know some will do linen pants or skirts. Just have her take a few different options with her like a pair of shorts or another casual bottom that flatters her body type. Most wear flat sandals or tennis shoes this day.

Yes, that page does say business attire. The full sentence is actually:
What to wear: This round is more formal attire, such as a semi-formal or cocktail dress or business attire, paired with comfortable shoes.
So, NO, business attire is not the norm.

They shouldn't have. Maybe the administration is trying to bring down the level of rush to more casual, "fewer frills" style. Ain't going to happen at Ole Miss any time soon. I am concerned that all this will do is make the girls who don't know the "system" stand out and not in a good way.

30+ years ago, that is what we were instructed to wear for the 3rd round. Pref was still dressy -- back then it wasn't cocktail but what you would wear to church (when people still dressed up for church).

Good spot 33. I can't imagine Ole Miss women wearing what I think of as business attire for pref.

Sorority move-in day is August 15th. Dorm move-in is the entire following week ... students move in on their scheduled day. I am so glad they started the new move-in schedule. Just a couple of years ago, everyone moved in on the same day and traffic in Oxpatch came to a screaching halt! However, like preparing for an ice or snow storm, I'm buying up everything I need for this coming week so that I can camp out at home until all the parental units head back home!
