Question New Executive Director

The new Exec. sounds cool and everything and Im glad she got the job (and this kind of goes with Lynn's post), but does anyone one else think its kind of weird that she is a Theta and not an Alpha Gam. You would think that this position requires someone who is familiar with the org, knowing its rituals, history, etc. ?

Not saying that this will happen or anything, but just in general when someone from another org is hired at one org, doesnt that kind of put the orgs confidential stuff at risk (if this person happens to be evil enough to where they would leak out info)?

You could kind of say if one person can be a member of and org. and work for another, why cant a person be a member of two org.?

I have nothing against her for I dont know her, but I just thought that her being a Theta and not an AGD was interesting.

Question New Exec.

I would have to agree that this could be a concern specially if the person in the position was also quite involved in their own organization.
I guess that we can be assured by the fact that we know that we pick quality women to join our sisterhood and if those women in turn are the ones that have interviewed our new Exec. Direc. then we should be confident in the fact that they were able to pick someone who is qualified and that is an all around good person whether she was lucky to have to joined our sorority or not.
I always wonder I would do if my daughter (if I ever have one!) attended a college that did not have an Alpha Gam Chapter. I would of course like her to attend one, but what if she didn't and what if she did go with another sorority. It would be her decision and I would not stop her and I sure would at least be appreciative if she joined the Greek family.
I would not love her any less for not choosing AGD.
In the same way, I guess, we have to think about our new Exec.
It would be a good idea, however, to have them, write up something about her and tell us a lot about her background/beliefs so that we all feel confident in our leadership.
Heads would definetly roll if the subject was not approached correctly!

Talking

Does anyone know what exactly the Executive Director does? I know that she oversees the hustle and bustle of IHQ...but that's about all I know. I know that our new director has big shoes to fill! Julie Waitman Cretin was a GREAT Executive Director...so good that she got a Convention award named after her!!!

What would be cool is if there was a Quarterly issue that talked about what all the positions at IHQ are responsible for. Does anyone know if there is one already?

I think there was one, maybe 3, 4 issues back that talks about each position and what they do. It might have just covered what went on in the offices though (and not the higher up offices). Did you know the graphic designer was a ZTA? :P

I kind of like the idea of having some members of other sororities at IHQ. They bring new ideas and views to AGD, that way we can grow as an org!!

Hi ladies,

Just to let you know, I am an ASA and our foundation director (i.e. she watches over where all the $$$ donated to the ASA foundation goes) is an AXO. So y'all aren't the only ones who have this. I was a little puzzled too, but it's mostly an accounting position so I'm sure that had something to do with it. (None of my chapter sisters who started as acctg majors stayed acctg majors, so who knows, it might be a national trend )

How did you all learn that Kathy had been appointed? I did go to the AGD website and found out, but only because of this Greek Chat thread.

As for her being a Theta -- did you know that Joan Rauen, who preceded Julie Cretin, is an ADPi? And Julie worked for Alpha Xi Delta before she came to AGD. Gale Wilkerson, the recently-appointed exec dir of the AGD Foundation, is a Delta Upsilon.

I suspect there are many cross affiliations among the headquarters staffs. When you think about it, what is needed is someone who can do the job -- manage the office staff, monitor the accounting, send out the supplies -- it's up to the officers and committee members to instill the loyalty to the organization. (Do EEOC regulations apply, so that they could not legally specify only Alpha Gams?)

That said, I think it would be interesting to have Kathy's explanation of how she will reconcile her loyalty to Theta with her new job.

I know there are many of us who check the AGD website often, and one of the news pieces in the "In the Spotlight" section was Kathy's appointment!

I remember Julie's work with AXiD being mentioned at Convention. Mr. Wilkerson's one awesome and funny guy--he kept on throwing bags of nuts at us in Atlanta. I guess when it does come down to the position, one's qualifications are more important than one's affiliation...but I am wondering if there are EEOC regulations...

I know in Alpha Phi our current exec dir is not even greek. I know we don't like to think of things this way but IHQ's are a not-for-profit business, so the best person is something with strong experience in that area.

correct me if I'm misinformed but isn't Delta Upsilon a non-secret male fraternity?

Yes, Delta Upsilon is a men's fraternity. (www.deltaupsilon.org, I believe).

AGD's new Gale is a he, not a she.
