Penn State THON Cancer Survivor is YouTube hit!

9 yr-old Tucker Haas recently performed on FOX after a YouTube video of his "Boom Boom Pow" performance at THON 2010 became viral! Tucker is the THON child of Zeta & ATO (Orange shirts/Black shirts in the background!)

Check it out!

I posted this in Chit Chat - great minds think alike!:

This could go in so many forums, so I'll put it here, and the mods can feel free to move it.

There's a 9-year-old boy who's been battling cancer since he was two named Tucker Haas who has a following on YouTube, rapping "Boom Boom Pow". He appeared at this year's THON at PSU, as seen here.

They were all on Fox News this morning, and go into the meaning of THON. Here's the video from the show on Fox.

The first video has people wearing ZETAUS t-shirts on - could that be ZTA & a fraternity? PSU people, can you shed some light on this?

Yep, it's the nickname for the pairing of Zeta Tau Alpha and Alpha Tau Omega. I guess because ZTA's nickname is Zeta and one of ATO's nicknames is the Tau's? I've never heard it personally, but that could be why. Anyway it's pretty popular to combine your Greek letters/names for fraternities/sororities that have the same letters. For example ATO's and ZTA's shirts for THON usually look like this:
A
ZTA
O

Here's a picture, sorry for the tea roses and the crown, they were from facebook so I wanted to conceal identities.

Sorry that wasn't a perfect representation, but you get the idea. Also DTD and DZ have a sign that they hold up that says "DTDZ", where D, T, and half of the D were in purple and gold and the other half of the D and the Z were in green and pink. At least that's what I recall. It looked really cute, here's a picture I found, again, keeping the people out of it.

Anyway, because you want to support your dancers on the floor you make signs with your letters (or name if you're an independent organization) so that they can see that you're there with them the whole time they are dancing. From what I've heard from former dancers, they've all said that it was really encouraging to see their friends in the stands when they were tired and in pain.

^ We made letters like that, only we call them Standards. I can remember working with PiKA & Pi Kaps, and we were PKADPKF - pretty good, no?

All y'all always paired with the same fraternity/sorority for THON?

It pretty much stays the same. Especially since each pair supports "Thon Kids" and those Thon kids are assigned to the group and the group interacts with them throughout the year through visits, care packages, mail, etc and at Thon.

Every so often the pairings do change up however. This usually occurs as a vote within the groups.

Theta Delta Chi, and from what I hear, it's been a great relationship so far. Especially since they became partners this year (they were both previously partnered with other groups before).
