A grave overstatement!!!
Recently on my campus there have been t-shirts dawned by several AKAs and Alphas stating, "I'm your father/mother and you will respect me." Now I pride myself in knowing my history and knowing it well. No where in any recording has there ever been any implication that Alpha Phi Alpha and Alpha Kappa Alpha were father/mother organizations. Maybe the first born child, but never the originator of black Greek letter organizations. The Masons and Eastern Stars on our campus are furious, because father/mother has always been a title we as the D9 gave to them. What I want to know is:
1. Are these bogus claims common?
2. Do they hold any weight, or as they might say in the south "any water"?

let them believe what they want. A lot of sites show the poem that references them as mom and dad.....
I personally feel that they may be older siblings but not mom and dad. I always gave that to the Masonic orgs.

It's one thing to walk in dillusion, but to try and make it seem as if what you're saying is fact and other organziations are in denial... Where is the line and when did they cross it?

I've learned to pick and choose battles. Someone is always going to think something and if it doesn't have any influence on my day to day actions....I let it go.

You sound as if you've never heard D9 members stake claims to questionable "facts". Have you never met a Sigma? I'm just saying.
Why don't you tell us where the line was and when it was crossed.

Word. Questionable "facts" have been circulating for soooo long.
Marquise, are there any Masons and/or Eastern Stars who are also Alphas and/or AKA's on your campus?

Black Freemasonry began when Prince Hall and fourteen other free black men were initiated into Lodge No. 441, Irish Constitution, attached to the 38th Regiment of Foot, British Army Garrisoned at Castle William (now Fort Independence) Boston Harbor on March 6, 1775. The Master of the Lodge was Sergeant John Batt. Along with Prince Hall, the other newly made masons were Cyrus Johnson, Bueston Slinger, Prince Rees, John Canton, Peter Freeman, Benjamin Tiler, Duff Ruform, Thomas Santerson, Prince Rayden, Cato Speain, Boston Smith, Peter Best, Forten Howard and Richard Titley.

Well as both a Mason and an Alpha, I don't really see a problem with the shirt. (Maybe I'm a little biased.)
We all make claims about our organizations that could be considered unfounded or untrue by others, so I see it as nothing more than that.
I recognize the fact the we were not the first BGLO, we're just the oldest collegiate BGLO in existence. (The first BGLO was started in the 1890s actually)
I don't think the D9 has officially given the title of "father/mother" to the Masonic Order/OES. I thought it was just an understood thing amongst many. As a Mason, I never even sought to try an "educate" or impose any sort of fatherly concept on any D9 member. (I know people that do, and it NEVER goes right)
Just my .06 cents...

Yes, but I believe "questionable facts" should be exposed as embraced ignorance. I am willing to correct anyone who has something false to say as it pertains to me or my organization.
