Civilian contractor charged in beating death of Afghan detainee

So, the lad wanted to clear his name and gave himself up to the authorities. Then, this "contractor" allegedly beat the lad up and he died. The "contractor" name is David A. Passaro of Lillington, N.C. Seems Mr. Passaro has a history of violance, according to his neighbours and his ex-wive. Hopefully other so called "contractors" will be arrested for beating and/or murders.

On another "contractor" news, both CACI and Titan has been sued for prisoner abuses. The companies are not the only being suit. Individuals are also being sued. Among them, Steven A. Stefanowicz, Adel L. Nakhla, and John B. Israel. All there were implicated by Maj. Gen. Antonio Taguba report on the Abu Gharib scandal.

I say that this is very good news... any of these contractors abusing prisoners or civilians is both ethical deplorable and strategically moronic.

While we may make distictions between the contractors and the military, unfortunately I believe that they will only be percieved as Americans or westerners by the Iraqis and Afghanis... if the western world is to start on the dangerous road that mercenary contracts open up again, we must be prepared to police them just as we would our own troops. Most vitally we must ensure that these contractors are not used as a tool to skirt domestic or international laws....

I'm in favor of torturing terrorists to get information that may save lives.

I don't even care if it saves lives.. you're torturing terrorists and that's good by itself.

Screw them and their "rights". Terrorists are living outside the social contract with society. If they do not respect the rights of other individuals ot life, liberty, etc... they deserve the same in return. Such is the way of war.

If a contracter killed a terrorist, I fail to see the big deal. They're beheading our civilians.

I don't know it sounds to me like this social misanthrope was allowed to act as judge, jury, and ultimatley executioner... against a man that was SUSPECTED of firing on coalition forces in Afghanistan. This "terrorist" then turned himself in at the front gate of the compound in order to clear his name, only to be degraded, beaten and killed... gald to see that we are holding ourselves to our own moral standards

Was not aware that he was turning himself in.

That would be different in my opinion than someone caught on the battlefield or before the comission of a terrorist act.

I didn't read the original news story (oops). In this instance, the contractor should be brought to justice.

Otherwise, I feel they should be treated in the same way they treat us. Perhaps we should behead them?
