I go to a large school, (40,000+)so finding something unique is hard to do. For formal rush last semester, my fraternity had a Steak and Lobster dinner. Even though it was expensive, it was a great way to get people in the door. What has worked the best for your chapter?

Every year for formal rush my chapter takes guys out to the dog tracks. Out there, they serve us a really nice prime rib dinner (although the steak and lobsters would be awesome) and we have a good time losing money on the dogs.
Also, prior to formal rush, we take a bunch of guys out paintballing. While this isn't new, I always thought that a neat twist would be to get a George Patton costume and go around handing out draft notices!
Yeah, we do the dog tracks too! We did it for the last night before bid night last semester. If you rent out a bus and get everyone going, it can turn into a crazy fun night. What else is out there?
Dorm Storms are the most effective way to perk interest by far.
Events like paintball are really good too, but bring people soley interested in a free paintball game.
Our school is mid-size: 6000 students
Freshman class was 1600 students
Only 400 out of the freshman class are male.
Using the freshman directory and other resorces we were able to track down all the names an contact information of these 400 guys and compile it into the "green book." Everyone got a phone call, everyone got an email.
A year or two ago, one of the fraternities here got a stripper...they were reprimanded for it, but it wasn't in the rules that they couldn't get one...needless to say, it is now...
