i know that a few person's attitudes and opinions shouldnt reflect a group of people, but in this case, it does. all this negative banter about diversity among greek orgs (and lack therof) is a big turn off for those who want to be a part of a GLO, regardless of what ethnic affiliation.

your big fronts are service and/or social. and prospectives should be interested for thse reasons, among other things. but when i hear/see these attitudes expressed, i ask myself, "are these people i want to be internationally recognized with" knowing that some of my sisters feel this way?

sure, because im an independent, i dont understand where the greeks come from. but when i, as an AfAm female, hear that i would be disrespected and/or outcasted from members of my own race because i joined an NPC, but at the same time, ethnicities other than AfAm that are down with the D9 are "one and the same," thats messed up. my school is only big on greek life to those who are in it, and none of those orgs are BGLO's. while i could join a city-wide chapter, the girls that would potentially take me in as a member could just as well talk smack about me if i was representing a WGLO's letters.

sure you should pick an org that suits you best. i am pretty much 50/50 as to going with a WGLO or BGLO, if at all. there are pros and cons to each. i dont have to join a D9 because im into serving my community--i can do that on my own. i dont have to join an NPC org because i want to go to formals, serve the community, and be known on campus--i can do that on my own. my concern with choosing an org is: could i be cool with these girls, regardless of their letters or what they do? unfortunately i have yet to find that in any orgs ive looked at. perhaps that is the chapter's members, but to a prospective, youre respresenting the whole org, while you could easily gain members, you lose potentially great ones.

I have been bamboozled!!

I was told that Rudey & Starang were going at it in this thread and baby oil was involved. Imagine my disappointment!! Come on guys, help me out, I don't have the $$$ for pay per view this month.

And re Melody Twilley, if you had any thoughts that she is just a nice sweet girl who wanted sisters, read this essay. It is an eye opener as to what she is really about.

No sorority, white, black, yellow, brown or polka dot, would take kindly to someone who was only using them as part of her agenda.

Actually I wasn't angered or upset at any point so I don't see the going at it anywhere. But you look like you might have thought that and it'd be fun to come in and make the same old homo joke. If you're gonna make a homo joke, make it funny. Otherwise it just sounds plain old retarded. Get it?

This became her agenda after, not before she went through rush.

Whoah, Rudey, don't guys like to see 2 women kissing at a bar? I didn't say you were a homo (not that there's anything wrong with that), I just believe in equal opportunity.

And Russ, you completely missed my point - no one wants a pledge who is only there to make a statement. It doesn't matter when this became her agenda, but I thought that article was from her senior year in high school, if so, she revised it later.

yes,

you could join a traditionally white sorority to make a statement or prove a point, but you probably wouldn't get much out of your membership, because you joined with an agenda in mind. you will get the most out of any membership when you join to be a part of something, to donate you time to service, to work with the group for the betterment of the group and yourself, without anger in your heart. but if you were to go through recruitment with an open mind and heart, and if you meet the membership criteria, if you meet people to learn more about them and to have fun, then you just might be invited to join. and you could make that chapter better and stronger than it was before.

I didn't miss the point at all. If she went through rush with the intention of changing the greek system, I could see where sororities would be reluctant to take her. That's not how the article read. She was affected by her rush experience, as anyone would be, and she then developed an agenda. She talked about wanting to achieve her agenda in the 3 years before she graduates from college, therefore the article was written after, or near the end of, her freshman year at Bama.

Eh you don't get my point. It's fine to call people homo. I'm more than open to you calling me homo since I call everyone and their mother homo. It's just that using a baby oil joke is not that funny.
