well, big toes are a requirement for initiation of course!

and oh yeah, there's a song too. we used to sing it at round 2 of rush after the hectic first round where the rushees had to visit 18 houses.

it's really fast and fun and everyone gets a kick out of it!

does your big toe have a blister
from the walking that you've done?

have you done so much small talking
that you've almost swallowed your tongue?

are your smiling muscles cramping
and living's just no fun?

unh uh!

does your big toe have a blister
from the walking that you've done?

Somewhere There is A DG

We sang this new song during rush, because our theme was the WIzard of OZ:

Somewhere there is a DG(to the tune "Somewhere Over The Rainbow")

Somewhere There is a DG
very near,
She's a friend I can count on
when no one else is here.

Delta Gamma is friendship
always true.
When college days are over,
Hannah will not leave you.

Our time for happiness is now
cause sisters we will always be
forever...

Our times of joy
will certainly
continue for eternity,
we're bound together.

When we chose Delta Gamma,
we did find,
Love and understanding,
Frienships of every kind.

Alpha Epsilon songs

When I was a collegian--I graduated two years ago--I created a songs page for my chapter website. We have words to most of the songs you've all mentioned and a couple that you haven't.

http://www.restech.wustl.edu/~dgamma/dgsongs.htm

My favorite that you haven't mentioned is probably "Mmm, Mmm My Sisters" or "What Does It Mean to be A Sister?". "What Does It Mean to be A Sister?" is to the tune of "Friends" by Michael W. Smith. I'd be happy to help any of you with tunes--just PM me.

ITB,
Angie

Singing Traditions

From hearing everyone talk, it seems like so many of y'all sing lots of songs. We hardly do any singing, except during rush! Even then, it's not really singing...it's more like screaming our heads off! Our door song is D-E-L-T-A, and when we're leading the girls out of the house, we sing the "Delta, Delta Gamma, I'm so happy, that I'm a..." song. Our skits change every year, but we don't use the older songs that I've seen in the songbook. Ole Miss doesn't have a Songfest or anything, either, so we hardly ever have an opportunity to sing DG songs (and most of us don't know them anyway ).

When we have a candlelight, we sing "Going to the Chapel." What kinds of singing traditions do y'all have?

Cool

Doesn't anybody sing "Dream Girl" anymore? What a shame. It's a beautiful song, written just for DG. One of the DG songbooks even has the different parts written out.

We sing Dream Girl constantly! It was my absolute favorite song when I went through recruitment, but I have to admit I'm starting to get a little tired of it. It's completely beautiful though! I think practicing it for prefs just wore it a little thin...

I love Dream Girl! The only time my chapter sang it was during candlepasses, so I can never hear it enough! (Sure, I say that now... )

My favorite DG song is probably "When You Go Away to College", although a CDC taught me a pretty song to the tune of "Dona Nobis Pachem" that I would love to hear a chapter sing.

Dee Gee and the Anchor
Now they are mine
Love and sisterhood
Through our lifetime

(It is either "our lifetime" or "my lifetime"). Enjoy!

A convention in DC a few years ago they gave all chapters a CD with the DG songs on it plus a binder with the lyrics. You might check with EO to see if they are still available. I liked being able to hear the tune to the songs as well as have the words.

Wow, my chapter must be a lot different than all of yours...

I've been in my chapter for almost 3 years now and I've never heard "When You Go Away to College" or "Big Toe"... And we've only sang "Dream Girl" twice...

But we do have a lot of fun songs we sing during Fall Recruitment.

This first one is to the tune of "High Flying Flag"

We're the Dee Gee Crew and we're welcoming youuu
To our house full of friendship and fun

:::::clap clap:::::

Let us tell you offfffff the house we loveeeeeeeeeee
The house that we know is for you

:::::clap clap:::::

Oh our hearts beat true for the bronze, pink and blueeee
And our anchors and sisters too

:::::clap clap:::::

So remember us at Delta Gee and keep your eye on the Dee Gee Crew

:::::clap clap:::::

This other one, we do for a different day/phase of Fall Recruitment
(Just clap throughout the entire song at an even/sort of fast pace)

Ohhhhh I wanna be a dee geeee
Oh yes, Oh yes, Oh yes I do

I wanna be a dee geeeee
And wear the bronze and pink and blue

Drop your anchorrrr,
Come and beeee,
Part of our sororityyyyy

We love Dee Geeeeeee,
So will youuuuu,
If you drop your anchor too

Thank you for posting those lyrics! I have never heard the song that goes to "Your A Grand Old Flag" but I am taking the words to my chapter so we can start practicing! We are always looking for new songs!
