Starting a Social Chapter at a "non-greek" school
My campus is primarily non greek. We have a few Music fraternities, a sorority for the latin minority, and an underground social frat.
It is my wish to found a chapter of an NPC sorority, and be recognized by the college. I have printed the documents on the NPC website about extensions, but I am unsure of how to start! How can I figure out if my campus is open to extension, and if it isn't, how can I work to open it?
I know this is a complicated process, and I would love all the help I can get! I also apologize if there is already a thread of this kind, I was unable to locate any in my search.
Thanks so much!

ETA: The link is a start. We don't know the extent to which your campus is non-Greek. It could be non-Greek because it does not want Greek Life or the administration could be anti-Greek. Someone (not necessarily you) will have to dig around with the Student Life office or whatever your campus has. The above link may assist with a step-by-step or contact info.

I would be extremely surprised to see Ithaca become open to Greek Life...

We had someone else on here from Ithaca trying to do the same thing but she was in the underground sorority. I can't remember her username.

Thank you all for your replies and for sharing this information with me! I was unaware of Gamma Delta Pi's presence on our campus. I have since been able to explore the organization's mission and previous endeavors...but, it appears as though my ideals, as well as the ideals of the women I have been in contact with, do not coincide with those of Gamma Delta Pi. I am still very interested in founding a chapter that can be recognized by the college.
I found the clause in our student organizations handbook against Greek life, and all it says is that they "do not currently recognize social fraternities or sororities." How can I go about trying to open this policy up for revision? I am aware that this process may be long and complicated, but I am willing to do the work. Have any of you been through this before? I would appreciate any tips and advice you all are able to share. There is a very long road ahead of me, but I know that sisterhood will be worth it!

First off, what is your academic standing? Even if you can get them to recognize a sorority, it will probably take several years.

What in the world is a "latin minority"?

One of which would be our Delta chapter. Founded in 1901, it's our oldest continually active chapter.
Just thought I'd share.

Form an interest group first. Inform the members of your interest group your intention and the process. Then contact your school's Greek advisor (or whatever title your school calls it).

Did you read the whole thread and the linked posts? (My guess is no.)

I'd guess they don't call it anything since, in the name of this thread she said her school is "non-Greek" and since she told us:

Correcting me isn't really helping the original poster. There's a lot of information on those threads, and the simplest solution is just to get one consolidated answer in OP's thread.

If your post doesn't help the OP, then yes it does.
